Hi all,

I started this weight loss journey in April 2012 and rather than go on a diet, I simply changed the way I eat. I gave up smoking in March. I limited the junk food and swapped for fruit / low calories snack. I started by doing JM 30DS Dvds and started jogging/walking for over 3 miles since May.

So far I lost 6 lbs, 1 inch on waist and 1 inch on hip, but these losses are recorded in early May so I have not lose anything for over a month.

I do not drink as I am allergic to alcohol (seriously!) so no empty calories for me. I am mearsuring most of my food (i.e. rice and meat) and reduced the portion size, I have not reduce any steamed/boiled vegetable as the calories are really low and I need something to fill me up. My daily goal is 1700 cal and try not to eat back all working out calories.

Can someone please let me know I am on the right track?

Welcome and you are most definitely on the right track!!!

Your diary looks really, really good and I LOVE all the fruits and veggies I'm seeing!!

Not sure what your "history" is with weight loss, but if you've been doing VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet a.k.a "the MFP 1200") you will need some time for your body to "heal"~ like 6-8 weeks or more, so let's put the number on the scale on the shelf for now, OK?

At this exact moment your focus needs to be on your body adjusting to being fed properly and knowing that it can trust you to feed it properly forever. In the beginning, you will probably have a gain. Once the "Healing Process" is completed (this is determined by your body and not a time schedule set by us), you will begin to lose if you eat less than your TDEE.

NOTE~ Eating less than your TDEE right from the start is NOT a shortcut through the process and may actually DELAY it!!

I'll give the floor to the others now, they will also have good advice for you~

You have a GREAT foundation though~ you just have to figure out what to tweak to give you long term success!!

Thanks rosied, glad to know I am on the right track. My boyfriend kept saying I'm still eating too much, specially fruit.

He was (when he was younger and fitter) member of England Karate team and studied sport and fitness (not exactly know what he studied at uni), he said I just need to stop eating, but I explained that I am geniunely hungry and I can't function properly when I am hungry!

I haven't done a really low calories before as I can't cope with no food, I am not one to strave to get thin.

I checked my TDEE on thie fat2fit website and it is around 2250 and my BMR is around 1450. this is why I chose to use 1700 for my daily goal.

1700 sounds a bit low then, we don't normally recommend going more than 15% under your TDEE which is 1912 cals for you. On that you shouldn't need to eat back exercise calories unless you burn off more than 462 a day - are you measuring those with a heart rate monitor or something?

BTW I love your cats, they're beautiful and it's nice to see someone else here from the UK, we're a little thin on the ground!

    Hi asidebottom,

Thanks and I love my cats, they are my world!

I'm eating my exercise calories, I'm not very good with straving myself, my brain literally stop working when I am hungry.

Hi! Just noticed you're from Somerset, I'm from Devon, howdy Neighbouroony!

Your diary looks good to me, I agree with the comments above, stick at it and I'm sure you'll see results over time.
