This is prob far fetched, but like right now I have 695 cals, 69 carbs, idk how much fat.... But if you could plug in your macros & a wonderful magical list would pop up to tell you some healthy are that might sound good.....that'd help me out a lot! Lol.0

a personal journal section maybe...a place for people to document their story on an ongoing basis. i'm no good at such things, but i imagine some would like it.0

We actually have that section on the test forum
Check it out0 -
I agree with Gypsybug's suggestions0

I posted on fb my suggestions but also maybe a section with sample menus? And sample menus for different regions? Ie America, sustralia & the uk since we do have different foods n protein powders. Maybe even have a member or two especially her in the first 8 weeks do a daily blogpost so others going thru this can see they are not the only ones?0

Great ideas! So you mean similar to the spot that we did on Nicole, but focusing more on the first 8 wks?

This is not only based on my MFP / EM2WL experience, but also forums in general.
When I am new to a forum and have questions it is sometimes difficult to trust a response from an unknown person. After lurking for a while I get a feel for who knows what they are talking about and can therefore translate the general ideas to my specific situation or question. But it takes time to get to this point So maybe consider "accrediting" some members as super users (or something similar). This way the forum members could help you to spread the workload, especially for those "please check my numbers" questions and newcomers would know the responses can be trusted. (This is almost like the moderator group with their slightly different logos, but applicable to a wider group of members)0 -
Instead of replacing the videos, just add to them? (That is to say if the videos will make it on to the new site?) Or perhaps a video that is animated with only a voice and the information is written also?
And for resets, Why you may need one. Like a list of questions of if you answer yes to these 5 questions you may need a reset. And how to do it with the correct nutrition.
Maybe have a MUST HAVES section for protein or workout equipment, DVDs. Etc.
And definitely need success stories!
I am sure it will be great you have so much knowledge and info to share already!! I am So happy i found this group!!!0 -
Bumping so you stay on page 1.....0
-
Yep that is what I meant0

I'm just wondering if you need a 'Reset' Thread in you Forum since it's such a popular thing here?
Also, link your favorite calculators (like scooby) under your resources/Start Here page perhaps? You need a place with a 'starter kit' so to speak. If you can give people an easy to find section with all the starter tools, calculators, exercise program recommendation, set macros info, maybe even a downloadable sheet to keep track of particular measurements and how often to measure, etc. I think it would help those that are just totally lost and don't know where to start and just want someone to tell them what to do at first!
Think of it as EM2WL for Dummies Kit lol! (just in case - that's in reference to the 'Dummies' Books you see all over the place, not a slam at people!) :flowerforyou:
Yes! This ^0 -
I definitely agree with the meal plans and starter kit...mostly just bumping so this doesn't fall off the 1st page...:bigsmile:0

A questionnaire with weighted "points" that would be created by someone numbers/statistical/ computer savvy.
Example questions:
1) what is your age? Male or female?
2) what is your weight? Goal weight? Body fat % if known
3) In the past month, did you average a) 7+ hours of exercise.....d) 0 hours of exercise
4) In the past month, what is your best guess as to your daily average calorie intake? A) less than 1000 cals/day between 1000 and 1600 calories per day c) between 1600 and 2500 calories per day or d) more than 2500 calories per day?
5) in the past 12 months, have you been counting calories (or been on a diet) or are you taking the first steps in losing weight?
Etc etc
The computer would generate a plan for the person at the end of the questionnaire like this:
Welcome to EM2WL!
These are our recommendations based on our analysis of your answers. You've been On a low calorie diet for a very long time. Your body will need a metabolism reset. This means we suggest that you eat 2840 calories every day for eight weeks. 2840 is your estimated TDEE ( full explanation here). During this time, we suggest you incorporate 60 minutes of strength training and 120 minutes of cardio within each week since this is what you are currently doing based on your answers. Do not weigh yourself.....all the other info here.....what to expect..... Starting on the 9th week, you will start your cut (explanation) at 2450. You will eat this amount for 11 weeks while continuing your workouts. At the end of the 11th week, recalculate using this questionnaire and reassess your workout routine for increased activity or decreased activity.. On the 12th week, you will eat your new TDEE for a mini reset.
I think something like this would be the important brain of the program and the default for all questions. It would generate very different responses for someone on a vlcd for many months trying to lose 20 pounds vs someone like me who is just starting out, didn't need a reset, and has 100 pounds to lose.
It would take time and resources to create but I believe it would help the founders of this group immensely!0 -
Well you could actually do more than just link to scooby. If you have the technical skills to do it you could put your own calculator on there so nobody would even need to leave the site then. Since i'm assuming you'd still be using the same maths as scooby you could just put a reference to them on it, but then you could also cut out the unhealthy cuts the scooby still has built into it and use language that is more EMTWL specific.
So instead have 15% and 10% cuts only and a metabolism reset and a maintain level etc.
Just a thought.0 -
Bumping to follow.....0

We do love this idea, and I think I mentioned up there somewhere that we are looking into that exact thing.
Of course, many of the ideas that we'd love to incorporate, such as this one and many of the other calculators, nutrition, meal planning software type deals will cost not only time, but resources ($$) as someone has said, which has to be considered in the grand scheme.
We really want to be able to offer those, and help people know precisely what steps to take, & when. We are getting a lot of people discovering the group from YouTube and such, & need to be able to take into consideration people coming from a completely oblivious to EM2WL mindset, who will need to be walked from beginning to end (or at least mid, lol). All resources to run such an operation will be considered in the features we can provide.0 -
If there is a chat room type feature that can be turned on, you could have special guests on for q&a sessions on specific topics, ie a nutritionist, chat about pcos and emtwl or diabetes and emtwl, have a personal trainer on to cover workouts, bf%, a doctor to speak to health benefits, etc. Run it a specific night and advertise leading up to it, then at the specified time, open the chat feature so users can interact with the specialist (or with you and you pass the questions on) .0

So exciting to see the group grow to this point!! I don't have anything to add to the suggestions, some brilliant ideas there!!
Now off to check out the test forum :bigsmile:0 -

Ditto this. I love the idea of NOT having the pressure of the 'you're not taking this seriously enough-see how there's a lower option than the one you picked' 20% loss.0 -
It would be great if there was a way to tag/bookmark message threads you are interested in without doing the "bump" that we have to do on these boards. That would significantly cut down the length of message threads and make less pages one would have to wade through.0

How about a picture gallery of, "Mtyh: But if I lift, I'll look like a man!" and then showcase photos of people who we suspect lift based on their physiques. You can have all different shapes and sizes/levels of "bulk" to show that you don't necessarily have to look bulky with lifting (i.e. Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba, Madonna, Jillian Michaels, Jackie Warner, Michelle Obama
"A recent American study noted that, over the past 15 years, weight training for women has become accepted by the medical and sports-science communities. Gone are the days when it was thought that women weren't biologically suited to such heavy exercise. Celebrities have seen to that -- while Madonna has taken things a little too far, A- listers such as Angelina Jolie, Hilary Swank and Charlize Theron have proved that a buff body can be feminine, too." - http://www.thirdage.com/exercise-fitness/should-women-lift-weights?page=10 -
Popping in .. and this will "bump" it back up to the first page - maybe
GREAT ideas and suggestions.
Agree about a "starter kit" and love the suggestion about personalized nutritional/health coaching : )0 -

The new forum will alleviate this. You will be able to search by user, and track any thread that you've ever spoken in. You can also look go threads posted in or started by other members. You can even narrow it down based on date/ time frames. This is a HUGE plus of the new forum.
The search features are much more in depth. You can search in specific areas of the forum, in specific threads, etc. no more searching the ENTIRE forum, unless you desire to do so.0 -

I love the idea of a form to see if you need a reset and depending on your answers, how long of a reset would be good. As for the MUST HAVES, I like the widget you currently have on your site, showing products you really like, but it would be awesome to have reviews of those products so we could determine for ourselves which products would be useful to us.
Something more specific in that area is that there were rave reviews about Cathe dvds, but she has A LOT! I had to do a lot of research to figure out where to start. I found out, not that I have much experience yet, that some of her recommended dvds had a bit of step moves in them, and I was lost and needed to first use her basic step dvd to get a clue. So a review of her products and starting points with which dvds to use, first etc.0 -
I am not sure if you do a ticker like MFP but if you did ... it would be good to have option of inches lost instead. not specific from where but total ... i personally would love to see that instead.
great job0 -

Ooh, I like this! There is SO much to know about her DVDs. I would love to slowly start putting out review on different ones ( I have most of them) and maybe even have a section of the forum dedicated to it where others can review as well. We all like different things (I for one, OWN most of her step workouts, but I stink at step, lol...) so it would be nice to have multiple points of view.I am not sure if you do a ticker like MFP but if you did ... it would be good to have option of inches lost instead. not specific from where but total ... i personally would love to see that instead.
Awesome idea!!! We LOVE our inches, and promoting that is such a great idea!0
