Stuff that's happening to me on amaryl

So yesterday I didn't have anything too strange happen. I was a little groggy which apparently happens the first week or so. Just before lunch my BG dipped to 82 and I felt awful but I ate lunch and was fine. My BG was good all day even though I actually ate carbs.
This morning, I ate a little more carbs than normal since I knew I was going to do a rather strenuous workout. Before, I would eat a cup of strawberries, 1 piece of whole wheat toast, an ounce or 2 of cheese and 1/2 cup greek yog. This morning I ate an apple, oz of cheese and instead of toast a whole english muffin. So carbs were a bit higher from the bread but without the greek yog and with a whole apple it wasn't much higher than before.
My BG was 177 about 1 hr later. I did an hour of high impact aerobic, rested a bit and took a shower so maybe 1/2 hr after exercise I took BG. It was 66. Strange thing is, I didn't feel shaky or anything. I figured it was around the 90s or 100s since I felt normal. I even took it again just in case it was some kind of testing error but it was still 66.
I have also noticed I'm not very hungry. I'm eating more in response to knowing I need to than because my body says to.
I hope I don't need to change my exercise time. I have always preferred exercising hard in the morning. Yoga or walking is fine at night but running and aerobics I like to do between getting up and lunch.

Amaryl always used to cause me to go low right before lunch. I would wake up with a fasting sugar of around 140, eat no more than 15 grams of carbs, then test at two hours and I would be as high as 220 - 240. But by lunch time I was as low as 50, sometimes even without exercise. Then, after lunch, everything would be ok. Between 80 and 120 until bedtime. But the morning swings were absolutely wiping me out. We tried changing the timing of the amaryl dose, no help. We tried breaking it into multiple small doses, no help. Tried switching to Prandin, which should not have had the same delayed low effect, but I still had the same pattern. Went back to amaryl. I have tapered back to only 1mg of Ameryl now, and now am much more stable. But now, in addition to the 2000 mg metformin and 1 mg Amaryl, I am also on Actos, Lantus insulin, and Victoza. (Not to mention the meds for cholesterol, triglycerides, and arthritis.)
I hate taking so many meds, its inconvenient and expensive. But for me its whats required to keep functioning.
I know losing weight and ramping up exercise will help. But I also know that 11 years ago, after I was diagnosed, I was not overweight, and I was doing both cardio and weight training on a regular basis. And I still needed several medications then, and never acheived great control.
Sometimes all you can do is keep experimenting to find what works best for you, then keep trying to improve on it.0 -
I am also on 1mg of Amaryl and 2000 of met. I also was active and within normal weight when I was diagnosed. Now, rather than being on the high end of normal I'm on the middle range of normal weight and even more healthy than I was in my 30s. Rather than improving my diabetes it has only gotten worse.
I'm also on a statin as a precaution and once we get my bg in order he is putting me on lisonapril. I also have something going on with my thyroid that is still being diagnosed. I was classed as hypothyroid for most of my life and now the endo is thinking its something else so I'm currently not on meds, my numbers seem ok, but I have a goiter.
So far, I'm not too thrilled with the Amaryl. It is giving me better fasting numbers but all morning I'm chasing it with carbs to keep from going really low. It is still making me groggy but that will hopefully pass soon. It is a little better. I'm going to try switching my exercise time to the afternoon where the lows are less of a risk.0 -
I'm a little less groggy. I actually woke up before my alarm this morning. I was feeling pretty good until I dropped to the 50s while I was exercising. Now I'm sort of tired although back at about 100.
I am enjoying being able to eat more fruit and a little more starch. I'm still trying to find some balance though. My fastings are still not that low but are now under 126 but so far they are always above 110, generally 115 to 125. It seems the amaryl kicks in about 10 am, which if I don't exercise seems to be ok as long as I eat a piece of fruit around that time. I just prefer exercising in the morning after I digest breakfast. If I wait, I'm less likely to do it. Maybe will try doing it first thing before I eat.
It still seems to put my appetite off but with the added carbs my cals are around target or a little lower.
I did buy glucose tabs the other day. My summer quarter PE class is yoga, hopefully that isn't going to be too hard on me today since it's hot yoga night. I'll make sure I take my meter and glucose.0 -
This is the first morning I haven't woken up feeling groggy and drugged out. Fasting this morning was 98. This week I was mostly just over 100 to a little over 110. I seem to be not hitting as many lows. Not sure why this is happening, is my body adjusting to drugs or is my eating changing enough?
I know that my body is adjusting to having lower BG. At times, I get the cold sweat and dizziness so I check and I'm ok. I think this happens if I drop suddenly even if the drop isn't too bad. It is happening less. Exercising doesn't seem to be triggering as many lows either.
Hopefully I'm back to feeling normal. I am now carrying glucose tabs and got a medic alert bracelet just in case something happens. I am notorious for getting busy and forgetting to eat, now that is going to cause problems.0 -
I get the same way if i drop too fast in my BG. I take glipizide and victoza. Glip will and does make me go low but I've really been in tune with myself and know when I'm dropping. My worst so far has been 55 when I was working out. I always have glucose tablets with and if I'm at the gym, will have juice with me in my duffel as well.0

I think my worst was about 40. I have had a lot of 50s and 60s but that seems to be settling down some.0

No liking going that low. But the reality is, with things like amaryl you get little control. Once you take the pill you just end up wherever. My body seems to be adapting to it and not dropping as low.0
