Hairstyle of the day!

Let's learn some new hairstyles! The same-old-same-old go-to hairstyles get boring! Style your hair, take pictures, write out some directions, and share! Go ahead and post pictures of your attempts at re-creation, and post any comments about other people's tries in the same post! If we do that, then we'll end up with a library of styles and versions without lots of commentary filler. :flowerforyou:

Ok, first up is a side dutch braid. First the pics, then the directions!
I started out with air-dried hair, and flat ironed just the very top layer (I have a few crazy strands, so I wanted to get it sort of smooth). Start the dutch braid on one side, above the ear, and high on the head. Braid around to the other side, lowering the braid as you go around (this will probably happen naturally). Once you get to the other ear, only add hair to the top strand (rather than both the top and bottom), so that the braid can swing. Finish braiding to the end, and secure with elastic. Flat iron or curl any tendrils you left out of the braid, if desired. I don't worry about bits sticking out from the braid, I think the bits are cute!0 -

That is so pretty!!! Where do you come up with these ideas!? I need to get in the lab. you are putting me and my wash and go to shame. lol. I need to spice it up ASAP0 -
Ha! Well, a lot of the ideas come from LHC, and a lot come from Pinterest. Also, browing Etsy for hairtoys brings up a good one occasionally, and youtube has a ton of tutorials. I usually fix my hair at my desk, so it has to be quick, no teasing, no hairspray, and very little heat. :-D
Now you try it and post your results!0 -
Something I might ACTUALLY be able to pull off doing!!
So trying that tomorrow when the sock buns give me another "FAIL" :laugh:0 -

OK! Today I'm doing a dutch braid updo! It looks complicated once it is pinned up, but it is really easy! This will take about 5-10 minutes, and can be done on damp or dry hair. You will need two hair elastics, and a few bobby pins. I like to use two very large bobby pins for the main pinning.
To start, divide your hair in half from front to back. I like to my my part start deep on one side, and then quickly move back towards the center. This avoids having too much of a "little girl" feeling to the style. Dutch braid each half moving around the lower hairline, and continue to braid to the back. Once you run out of scalp, continue braiding to the end of the tail.
Take one of the tails, and pin it to your head, keeping the braid flat against your head. In this case, I pinned up the tail with the white hair elastic first. I took a picture of one of my large bobby pins. You can get them at any store like Walmart, Target, or Walgreens.
Now take the other braid, and cross it over the first braid, keeping the braid flat, and bring it up to be level with the first braid, but on the opposite side of your head. Pin in place.
Now, on the first braid (the one with the white elastic), remove the elastic, loop the end of the tail over, and pin down. Try to get the loop in the back center. We want to use our tail loops to fill in that blank space.
Now do the same thing with the other tail.
Finally, you will probably have some of the tail sticking out. Loop those pieces over and pin them down.
Done!!!

Which results? The sock bun "Fail" or the braid?
I forgot to take a picture of the braid. I will have to do it again after the gym tomorrow.0 -

Hair is just a teeny bit too short for me to pull this one off. Looks VERY pretty though!0 -
You might be surprised how it turns out, even with shorter hair! You can cross the braids lower, and seperate out the tail more to get more loops. :-) I'm looking forward to seeing y'alls pictures!!0

Stepharega- you could try pinning the stick out bits back under the braid! I'll try to figure out a style for layers, though!
Come on ladies! I can't be the only one who fiddles with their hair!!0 -

Okey dokey, hokey pokey! I have the results from the headband waves! I love it. It is, hands down, THE most comfortable way to curl my hair overnight. Well, maybe not curl, exactly. More like huge waves that sometimes curl into huge spirals. Whatever you want to call it, it looks great in person.
In person.
That's the downside. It looses something... a lot of something.... in photos. Maybe if I teased the crown, it would look better in a photograph (you know how you have to do your hair really big to even make it look normal in photos? and super-duper big to make it look like you might have teased it just a little?), but since I need to wear it in real life, and I don't want to tease my hair every day, AND because no one is photographing me on a daily basis, I'll just not worry about it.
Ok, so I followed the directions in that youtube tutorial, with a few modifications. First, I did it on barely towel dried hair. Second, I did not do a twist when I got to the back. I pushed the hair already wrapped around the band further up the band, towards the front, and continued to flip the hair around the band. I saw a few different tutorials that twisted that remaining tail, and I thought the results looked a bit raggedy. So, flip the tail! Third, I reverse tied a tichel around the whole shebang when it was bedtime (ala Rosie the Riveter). I roll around quite a bit, and I didn't want my hair falling out of the headband.
Pictures!

I love it!! I say if it looks even better than that. Tis amazing :flowerforyou:0

Love the "headband curls"! Saw that tutorial as well & just haven't gotten around to it yet. :happy:0

I dyed my hair darker last night, and did the headband curls again. I tidied up the ends with the curling iron this morning, and I think it looks great! A few of the guys in the building have even stopped me to comment on it, so... yeah! Keeping this style!!!0

Today I didn't feel like messing with my hair, so I just did a fully rolled sock bun. It's a bit lopsided in the photos, so I've re-distributed the hair after I saw the pictures. I didn't bother re-taking the pictures, though, because I figure ya'll get the idea. It took less than 3 minutes to get my hair up.
Pictures!
And because ya'll are a bit of a captive audience, I'm springing a baby picture on you! Bask in the cuteness! Bask!
