Ok, so my camping season officially started on the weekend and it actually went ok. We headed out to the lake Sat morning/afternoon and spent 1 night. This coming weekend is the Canada Day long weekend and I will be away camping for 3 nights, and the following 2 weekends after that I am also scheduled to be away. I love summer and camping! Anyways, food-wise this past weekend I did well, even though I did treat myself to 1 cooler while sitting around the fire Sat night. We did take our bikes with us, but I never got around to going out for a ride, as we were busy helping my parents do some building and there was a pretty strong wind coming off the lake. Since I managed not to over eat, I wasn't excessively upset for not doing any exercise. My plan for camping weekends, going forward, is to try and get the exercise in, even if a walk or hike at a minimum, and to keep trying to stick to the cycles to some degree for eating. To offset, my plan is to go hard and strict during the week, but lately I've been having a bit of trouble getting my butt out of bed to get to the gym in the morning. I made it this morning though, so 1/2 so far this week!

Also, I'm wondering if any of you have any health care background as I've been noticing some changes with my heart rate at the gym and am kinda curious about it. For example, probably about a month ago, while doing the cross-trainer (elliptical type machine) I had worked my resistance level up from 1 to 5 by then, and going at a pace of about 150-155 strides per minute, my heart rate would get up to 160ish at the highest. I'm 33 so my max HR is 187 and thus 160 is 86%. This was a pretty decent effort for me. However, I've noticed in the past couple weeks, with the exact same machines, same resistance, and my same HRM, my hr has increased. Today for example when I got up to 152-154 strides per minute, my hr got as high as 171 (91%). So I try to bring it down, and have to go about 134 strides per minute to get it to stay below 160 bpm, which doesn't feel like a very hard workout. I feel fine in all cases. Not sure if I should be concerned about this change, or maybe it has something to do with the weather being warmer this time of year. Does anyone have any ideas? I've also noticed that doing the same workout at 6:30 in the morning during the week, that my hr is higher than doing it at 11:00 am on the weekends after being up for a while first. Maybe this has an impact as well.

camping!!! how fun!! I am envious......I love to camp but have not done so in many many years! I think your plan to do really well during the week and give yourself some leeway on the weekend is a good one! Enjoy your summer camping!!:smooched:

I am going to order the books today to start this plan. It seems to have good results so I hope you don't mind that I joined this group before I actually start the program.

Thanks Suzie! I was thinking the same thing. Next time i go, I'll talk to him about it. This morning I lowered the resistance to level 4 instead of 5, and it was much better, so maybe level is just too much for me.

Hi :-) Going camping as well this weekend, thanks for some ideas I will implement. Won't be able to do my regular workout, and eating may put me at the mercy of hotdog vendors lol. I have let myself transition into phase two a few days early to account for the unavoidable carbage.

Re; your heartrate. I am not a healthcare professional, but I came across this issue when googling "overtraining" for my own reasons. Sometimes an elevated heartrate is a sign your body is under a lot of exercise stress. Anyway, maybe check out "signs of overtraining" on the google machine, see if any of the other symptoms match you? http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/overtraining/a/aa062499a.htm
