can't get my fasting below 100

It's not bad.....110-125. But I am committed to get my numbers good. Hoped to get off meds....but I'm probably 50 pounds from that if at all....I've lost 32 since Feb, now at 202. My after eating numbers are almost always below 120, 140 tops.

1000 met am and night. I usually take nite med at 11pm to 12am. I've been having a night snack, string cheese or cottage cheese and walnuts. Been playing around with snacks and haven't found the right one yet. I really don't like eating at 10 or 11 pm....I eat 1400 calories/day and average 35%CARB/35%PROTEIN/30%fat.

I normally exercise 60-70 minutes per day and most of the time that is late evening. 7-9pm. I burn 300-550 calories and use conservative calorie burn counts....my HRM is way off. So I know I'm not just throwing out a huge burn number to make myself feel great.

I thought the late exercise would carry me thru til morning....but not working.

Am I going to have to wake up in the middle of the night to eat something????

any ideas???

I weigh exactly what you do...and my numbers are about the same. Difference is my Dr. took me off the 2x a day, 1000mg of the metformin when I was able to show him that my numbers were in the 100 - 130 range without it. He is going to check me 3 months and if my numbers are still the same or lower, I wont have to go back on the metformin. I figure they should be lower by then.

I dont eat as much as you.....but no debates, please. I am not starving. I keep my carbs as low as I can and rely on protein to fill me up. The only evening snacks I might have are sugar free Jell-O or maybe 1/2 c. of pistachios. Or I may just drink some iced tea with Truvia. I may not exercise every day, either...sometimes every other day. And I dont exercise late...usually early evening unless its swimming, which I do during the afternoon.

None of this may help you...maybe I am just lucky.

For me, the only way to do it is more drugs. I have tried eating no carbs after about 4 pm (seriously, just meat, no veggies), exercising, not exercising, eating a low carb snack, eating no snack, eating a higher carb snack, and I think any and every combination of food and exercise.

With the amaryl and met I am now getting consistently under 126 and often near 110. With only veggies and nuts after about 4pm I was able to get to 107 this morning. The amaryl allows me to eat some carbs during the day though so that's nice.

Do not beat yourself up so much. If you know you are eating well and you still can't get under 100 in your fastings then don't worry too much about it. As long as you are around 110 most of the time and under 126 all the time I'd call that good. Especially with good post prandials like you have.

110 and 126 are almost close to normal.. isn't it? My post prandial 2 hr readings run as high as 200 even if meal was low carb. It takes 3 hours to return to normal.

    Typo..

I have difficulty keeping fasting numbers normal when in maintenance mode. I may need to take metformin now that I don't have much weight left to drop at BMI 20/21 and BF less than 13%.

I wonder if anyone of us here had to face this dilemma?

    Thanks.

thanks guys. I know I'm probably fretting on the fasting number needlessly....I just wanted it to be 'normal' ha. I'm really proud of my day numbers....and hopefully losing more weight will help me fasting. maybe not....according to some folks dilemas. I know weight isn't everything when it comes to the devil diabetes. I was just hoping to reduce meds cause I'm probably too 'elderly' at 57 to drop them completely! lol.

It is ridiculously annoying to have a higher number when not eating compared to eating!

You are much younger. I'm 60 years old at it for 11 years. We're in this together. I was diagnosed at 98kgs. I am not an expert but weight and diabetes are connected, I think. My control over fasting blood sugars improved as BMI dropped. As tsazani wrote... your efforts and success are to be admired. :flowerforyou:

My FBS is always my highest reading of the day, but still in a good range. For me, exercising the evening before is the key, as well as eating a few healthy carbs at bed time. If I do these things, I usually wake up in the 85-95 range, if I don't I usually wake up 95-105.

I think it is important to remember these things take time. Don't be too hard on yourself. I know we all want to get off meds but the ultimate goal is good health you may need meds to do that you may not. Try to focus on what your doing and don't stress so hard on the #s they will improve with time. My FBS is on average 85. I work out in the evening I eat carbs in a healthy way I even have a sweet now and then. This disease is a tricky one everything will affect your #s for example stress. Just keep doing what your supposed to be doing and you will get there. If things still aren't changing you may need to try a different form of medication I tried many before I found one that worked great for me. I currently take Janumet it's a combo and januvia and met works wonderfully for me. Everyone is different. Best of luck!

Losing weight can help but it isn't everything. When I was a size 0 I had some amount of control but I think that was age related, that was 3 years ago. I'm now a size 1 or 3 and without the amaryl was at 115-135 for fastings. I was also eating about 50 net carbs and exercising.

I wouldn't give up the idea that you can get off drugs but I wouldn't get upset if you can't. You have been doing a great job. Keep up the good work and the rest of the weight will come off.

Hi all, Started using this app a few months ago and have been losing very slowly. Trying to get my numbers under control which have gotten considerably better when I started using MFP. Having trouble now with my numbers being to low before meals. Would like to add some friends from this group. Thanks

@aat3877 Are you eating anything between meals? I have this problem on occasion before my evening meal. I used to have it all the time but have found that by eating an ounce of almonds about two hours before I know I'm going to eat my evening meal usually keeps me in a good range. It's all about experimentation to see what does and doesn't work for you.

Welcome to the group. Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like.

I am working with my doctor to back off some of my medicine. With the exercise I am doing and the smaller amount of food, I don't need as much. Good sign, I hope. Would like to get off of some of this stuff. Thanks for your encouraging words.

@aat387 Good job. I'm glad your dr. is working on adjusting your meds. Meanwhile, travissegar's idea is a good one. I eat 6 or more times a day. Part of that is so I never eat a lot at once and shoot up my BG and the other part is so that I never drop too low.
