Erase the word "binge" from my vocabulary...

...one day at a time.

Since this group started I have logged 5 days. Drank 3 glasses of red wine last night with dinner and that is the only booze so far.

Tonight my wife and I are going to friends for dinner and I am planning on 1 beer for cocktails, 2 glasses of wine with dinner, and that's it. The food will be chicken kabobs and I am bringing zucchinis to bake like pizzas. Scoop out the seeds, add sauce and cheese, broil till cheese is bubbly and done. Fruit for dessert.

We'll see how I do, but that's the plan. Easier to get to a goal if you have a plan, but that's no guarantee.

What's your plan? For tonight?

My plan? To eat some veggies and drink 6-8 more ounces of water, and be done with everything else.

I've logged 3 days now (embarrassing results), and soon I'll start dropping those drinks like flies... and endure "are you pregnant" glances from friends. I'm guessing you don't get those... Those zucchini pizzas (zucch-izzas?) sound yummy! I bet I know a few people who would devour those besides myself!

Good job logging, planning and keeping the drinks low! Have fun at dinner!

Nice! I failed. Unless vegetable spring rolls count as veggies...
  • I don't binge w/red wine, I enjoy 2 to 3 glasses w/my dinner & after everything is done for the day. I don't drink beer or anything else.

We went out with old friends from Colorado who came to Huntington Beach for their vacation. We drove 90 minutes and they were in a party mood - walked from their hotel to the restaurant. I was tempted and my wife offered to duty drive, but the combination of driving back home and MFP's Booze N' Snooze pledges kept me to one beer (a really good craft IPA). I had a good day.

This could become a habit. The next trial is our own family vacation. Flying to Houston then driving with wife and four daughters to New Orleans, LA and Olando FL for 17 days of american family roadtrip in heat and humidity and teh French Quarter. Not sure if the Vieux Carre or being in a car for 17 days with five women will be the stronger force to want to drink.......

    RESULTS!

With a week of watching my consumption and succeeding in lowering my alcohol intake (but not eliminating it) I have gone from being plateaued for 3 weeks at 239 to 237 this morning. 2 lbs in a week. Not a trend yet, but definitely encouraging!

My husband and I went to Summerfest in Milwaukee & the heat was in the high 90's, like every year. I usually drink lots in the heat, and of course buy awful food to eat, like deep fried eggplant with marinara, etc.

But this year, we would buy one drink at a time and split it in half. So in nine hours I drank a total of five drinks, where I normally would have easily had nine.

So happy it worked out that way! I wasn't feeling deprived, I was enjoying the taste of some great microbrews, and I didn't eat awfully nor did I feel crappy the next day.

    This is a success!

Now I hope to repeat the same thing over the next few days when I will be at picnics, parties, beer tents w/bands, etc.!

Good luck to you all this week!

That's great! Good for both of you! We start a family vacation in New Orleans for a week next week. I will use your ideas...

jplord... Great success! I may have the same thing going, but I'm afraid to log it in case I was just dehydrated. :ohwell: New Orleans should be so fun! I was 17 when I was there, and I had a great time on Bourbon St. (without drinking or even going into bars). The people and music were fantastic... I hope to make it for Jazzfest sometime soon. Good luck with the women in the car... and the drive!

katiedid1226... That is a great idea! I have to remember that! Mmmm... that food sounds yummy!

I've been doing ok, definitely cut back a ton. Not bingeing, that's for sure! I'm happy that I'm still logging it all too... the first day I know the count was off, but since then I've been really good! We went over to a friend's house for dinner and margaritas a couple days ago and I really held back, only having one full glass and then when I refilled (only twice) I just went halfway, and drank water all night too, so yay! My real problem is coming, because there is a single day at that time of month when I find a single shot of Crown Royal to really relax certain muscles well, and often I just carry on with drinking that until my time is over, so I'll really have to watch myself to stop at one. I can do it though!

Following up on prior posts about the upcoming vacation. It came and went.

And over 17 days of vacation, using MFP on my phone, and eating and drinking (but never to excess) in some of the great places New Orleans and Florida have to offer....

...I gained 2 pounds. I did not deny myself anything. I denied excessive servings, worked out in hotel fitness centers, walked a lot, and tried to eat veggies and proteins more than fried starches, buttery sauces, and desserts - but I still had them. Beer, wine, mint juleps, bread pudding, key lime pie, pralines, you name it, I tried them. But I never went past 1 or 2, and never had a hangover or regrets for bad behavior.

THis group made me think it through and form a plan. I kept to the plan (mostly) and the results were great! I did not drink to excess and I did not eat mindlessly. THanks for the suggestions and pointers. They worked for me.
