Hi everyone! I have been using MFP for awhile now...well on and off really. I am finally feeling motivated again but am finding it a struggle. I am 47 and my Dr. recently told me I am starting menopause (I could have told him that!!) The hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings etc etc etc. And of course the fact that it is a huge fight to get this extra weight off!!
I eat healthy, I walk every day (sometimes twice a day) and still I can step on the scales and I have gained weight!!! So very frustrating and makes me just want to say "why bother?" But then I remember how bad I feel as I gain even more weight, so I start again!
I also have to deal with having hypothyroidism and being gluten intolerant and IBS.
I hope to find support here and also be able to support and motivate you all!

I'm going through menopause also but I have had good success in losing weight. Maybe your calorie intake isn't low enough. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like0

Thanks. I am not sure I can go much lower with the calories. I am around 1200 a day, do I need to make that lower?
I do not eat bread as I have a gluten intolerance, so lunch most days is a sald and then some kind of salad or veggie dish with protein at supper. I also recently cut out my evening snacking thinking that might help, but still not much change.0 -
When I started on here (Feb 2012 not what it says by my name cause I didn't start for real til Feb) I started out at 1000 a day but it wasn't hard for me because I was used to skipping meals before I joined mfp. When I turned 50 everything changed, what I used to do to lose weight no longer was working for me and I got up to 146 pounds. So my daughter talked me into doing this and I was hesitant but then I thought what have I got to lose. It recommended I eat 1200 a day but I started out at 1000 on 2/27/12 weighing 146 lbs, then on May 25, 2012 I increased my intake to 1100 (weighing 128.8) and lost more weight. On 6/8/12 I increased my calories to 1200 (weighing 126.4) and again lost a pound or two. Today I increased my calories to 1300 (weighing 124.8). I don't need to lose any more weight so what I am doing is every few weeks or so I increase my calories a 100 a day more. I usually give it at least a few weeks before I increase again to give my body time to adjust. Sometimes I wait longer to increase only because there was so much going on for me that I waited for things to slow down. I did find watching the sodium intake helped a lot plus drinking lots of water. I have kept a journal of what I've done0

I never gave up snacking and I have cheated at least once a week and I still seem to have plenty of success.0

Thanks for the suggestion. I am struggling to not feel so frustrated so any ideas are greatly appreciated.
I have started moving more and I am starting to notice a bit of difference. I also try to keep my sodium down, the issue I am finding is my sugar is always over the goal that MFP has set for me. I don't eat alot of foods with added sugar, most of this comes from fruit, which is my go to snack now.0 -
How much fruit are you eating? Even though it is "healthy" fruit has a lot of sugar. Try only eating 2 pieces of fruit per day, especially low glycemic ones....0

Most days I have 2 or 3 servings of fruit. Usually berries, and apple or orange are my go to fruits, I also have a banana 2 or 3 times a week.0
