Cycling?

I am considering trying a cycling class at my gym....what stops me is the thought of being uncomfortable after 10 mintues - meaning my butt will fall asleep or worse - cramp up! I believe my burn will be greater than on a treadmill or eliptical...

Is there anyone that tried this exercise at my general size (over 250lb)? What are your thoughts?

Hi, I am heavier than you and I do a spin class once a week. Your girlie bits suffer the first few times, but I would say go for it - The burn is worth it. Don't forget your towel - you will get drippy, Don't forget your Water - you will need it, Don't worry about being able to get your bottom out of the saddle for long - it will come in time and GO FOR IT

I am ashamed to admit but I don't know how to ride a bike. I will have to get some stabilizers first. I used to ride a motorbike when I was 250lbs so I would have thought it wouldn't be much of a difference. I would say just do it hun and I wouldn't care less what others thought of me. I have quite a few friends both off and on MFP that has taken up cycling and throughly enjoy it!

Can you do a spin class on a recumbent bike?

Thanks for the ideas and words of encouragement ladies! There are no recumbents in the spin class at my gym - but that would be a way to start if they offered it. I am going to try and chat with the girl that leads most of the classes and get her take on my concerns. Other than worried that my *kitten* and lady parts (TMI??) will suffer the consequences, I have to find out what shoes are ok to wear and hope I can start with just my sneaks instead of investing in some fancy shoes!
