I Got To Get Back On Track

I began this year with the mind set I wanted to do a half marathon.
Everything was going well. I signed up in advance for a couple of 5ks, a 10k, and a Warrior Dash.
The week before my first 5k this year, I got sick. But ran it anyway.
My 2nd 5k I had no issues and ran it without a problem, except I ran them in my New Balance Minimus shoes without socks and got a few blisters.
Between the 2nd 5k and the Warrior Dash, I developed an IT Band issue and worked through it the best I could.
I ran/walked the Warrior Dash, but finished (I had to walk due to the IT Band got to hurting me). Then I took time off and decided to listen to my body. I would run on some days and as soon as my hip bothered me, I'd stop and walk the rest of the way.
I ran probably more than half of the 10k in May, but did a fair share of walking just to finish.
So my plans for doing a half this year maybe off until next year.
My hip hasn't bothered me so I decided to go for a run. I have always been able to run 3 miles no problem, might be wore out, but I could do it. I picked a spot where it's fairly flat and decided to do a nice little run.
Now we're talking about June in MS.. It was only 94 with a heat index of probably 99.. I got one mile in and was drained.
I know I have to get my diet in check. I've been enjoying Wendy burgers, Miller Lite, and Diet Dr. Peppers a little too much of late.
What's some good tips about getting back on track?

Diet aside, I would recommend that you get that IT band looked at so you have a solution for it.
I would suggest that you start back into things by maybe running 5 minutes and walking 1 minute to build everything up.
Hope this helps !!0 -
Well the week before last I actually was able to run 1.5 miles with no issues except being out of shape. But I also stretched little before and spent several minutes after.
I've decided instead of waiting to get my mileage up before hitting weights to hit the weights but be slow and listen to my body.0
