Splurge...

The rule that's hardest for me is allowing a splurge day. I do better when I cut out treats altogether—at least for a week or two, until I binge horrifically. Anyway. How is allowing just one cheat treat or meal a week working for you guys? Help me out! I love the idea of enjoying in moderation, but it's just been hard for me to get my head around.

I find that having a Splurge Meal once a week works best for me. When there is something that I really want and may binge on I put it on my Splurge List, which is posted on my fridge. My spluge meal is usually on Friday or Saturday Dinner/Dessert. Also, on my planned spluge day I moderate my caloric intake early in the day so that I can "Splurge" and feel like I have earned it on two counts: I had a great week and I started a great day.

Allowing the weekly splurge meal can alleviate the "need-to-binge" feeling.

If you find yourself in a binge, stop, drink a BIG glass of water and start your day over. (This works for me.)

Also, another thing that helps me, is writing down the negative thoughts and then writing a truth about me, even if I write "I am worth it." after each negative.

You are worth it. Your husband thinks so, your baby thinks so and all of us here at MFP think so.

You are so worth the effort.

It's not about how many time we fall down, it about how many times we get up.

I am guessing this is why the book says do not have a Splurge Meal until you are done with the first 2 weeks :-)

I am glad for the two week rule. And he mentioned that the splurge meal isn't a candy bar it's still sticking with the rules but having a little wiggle room with say... having more egg yolks LOL. I have to re-read that section since it still seems a little vague. However, I am not gonna take part in the splurge meal until I really need to such as bad pms.

It almost seems like he added the splurge "rule" as a compromise or an olive branch to not seem like such a hard *kitten*, know what I mean?

I'm afraid to do the splurge meal right now anyway because I have so much still to lose to be ultimately healthy and because I have this inability to stop sometimes. If I just stick to a routine - same time eating each day - and keep it clean I seems to get along better. Still, husband's birthday is coming up next week and I'm making the cake as healthy as possible (home baking it). So, I will first make a smaller cake than the normal size and second I will have a slice with fruit on top as my splurge. That's not really a meal, I know, but it's the best I can do right now.

What have some of your splurge meals consisted of?

 I had an accidental splurge last night. :grumble: It was cold, sugary, and dairy of all things - a Cold Stone ice cream. Except for the sugar-induced headache this morning :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: I actually still lost a significant amount on the scale - 1 pound! It could be that tomorrow I stall but I'm going to concentrate on exorbinant amount of fiber today and the normal 12-14 cups of water to keep the sugar flushing out.

This isn't what Harper means by a splurge - because his is intentional and planned. Mine was the worst kind but I'm counting it as my spluge this week!!!
