Anyone Doing Strength Training?

Any of you doing Medifast and working out adding strength training to your cardiograph workouts? I am contemplating taking a week off of working out just to see if the scale moves differently for me. I am doing cardiograph 6 days a week for 30-45 mind and doing strength training every other day. I am starting week 6 today and am down 20.7 so far but was honestly hoping for a bigger loss by now. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with that total, I just wanted more. I have cheated here and there but I keep wondering after reading other posts if I should just do 30-45 mind of only low intense cardio?!

  • I do strength training & cardio but not intense on either one. I think you are probably not losing as much from the cheating "here & there" and not the fact you are exercising. As long as you can keep calories under 1000 & carbs under 80, I'd keep exercising. It's a good habit to have & taking time away may make it harder to get back into a routine.

I am going to continue to do the strength training then! Thank you! How often do you exercise and for how long? My health coach told me to do 3 days a week for no more than 45 mins each. I have been on plan for the past 2 days and I definitely know that you are right that I have to stop the cheating here and there and stay on plan 100%! I even managed to go out to a movie last night and didn't even have a taste of the popcorn that my sister and neice were eating. That is a HUGE accomplishment for me because I LOVE popcorn! ;) Thanks for all your advice and encouragement!! I greatly appreciate it! I am starting to see some changes in how my clothes fit and I needed a strapless bra and am already down a band width from only a few months ago! These are big signs of proof to me to stay on track! I am REALLY trying hard! My goal for this week is to stay on plan 100%. So far so good. I weigh on Fridays so that is how I am figuring my week.
  • I do the treadmill for 45 minutes 3 times a week. Lately I have been warming up for 7 minutes at 3.5 MPH and then the rest I got at about 4.0 MPH. I swim 2-3 times a week for about 20 minutes using just my arms to pull my body weight through the water. I do strength training 2 times a week on my arms only. Simple curls, overhead presses, and side raises with 8 pound weights.

You will see a big difference the first week you make it through without cheating, I know I did. I couldn't help it my first week, it was tough. But week 2 and 3, bam!! I didn't cheat and I lost 3+ pounds both weeks. Good luck!!

Thanks for the advice! I really enjoy working out and how I feel afterwards. It helps to hear what is what is working for others too!

I'd love to, but I deal with extreme hunger while on plan and exercising only aggravates it further. I'll see how I do with the hunger aspect of it this time around but for now, no (at least not until week 3 for sure).

When I did it last time I did the 30 day shred, 6 days a week. It didn't seem to affect my losses at all and the inches melted away.

I have the 30 day shred and am thinking about starting that next week but I don't know if I want to give up my "me" time at the gym.

I just got back with my trainer this morning. It's been a long while since she's seen me and was excited I was having such success with just the Medifast. She understands that I am on very few calories, so she has me on low intensity cardio (HR btwn 120 and 140 until I burn between 100 and 200 calories). Then I do a strength training circuit that works everything (takes about 15-20 minutes). Today was my first day adding any excercise while on Medifast. I will report back on how I feel towards the end of the day.
