Hi fellow Low Carber... (I posted on two boards, I am in need)

I am a volunteer for the forestry, we do patrol hikes of trails around the area. I am new at this hiking plus I am now low carbs avg 25nc per day. My body is being resistant to the changes I am making. Everytime I ex I exhaust my glycogen stores and it takes me a wk to restore. I hv learned the hard way and drink lots of water!

Because of all the fires we hvnt been able to go on patrol hikes, so I am not conditioned and worried about my first hike tomorrow. I am hiking w someone I don't know and I don't want to share my concerns about my endurance but I don't want to push myself, only to crash later ugh!

Help...I don't mind increasing my net carbs for the day even if it means I will gain water wt.ni am in this for life and I know it's water :) so...
..what's your advice
..wht carbs should I take
Wht should I eat at the beg'ing of my hike...lunch break...after I get h,
...I hv a two liter camel back
...how many Powerade zero should I drink or add to my 2 lt camel back

I read that glucose promotes glycogen stores to the muscles where as fructose promotes store in the liver. I need the my muscles store...when would be the best time to use the glucose sticks?

I love hiking, love the out doors...my body loves it too, but right now it is confused as much as me..

You live high like I do... I'm about 8000 elevation, and we are struggling with smoke too. (Utah). My boys are struggling during their sporting activities and I am dreading my runs/walks. My sons Sports Med. Dr. suggested Pedialite (the stuff they give dehydrated babies!) and it has improved breathing and hydration for all. They have been sucking down the frozen style pops before practice. We also installed misters under our deck... knocks the smoke out of the immediate air. Drink, Drink, Drink that water! Berries and nuts are a wonderful "before" hike food.

Thanks for the advice...I will hv to see if pedialite has sugar in it. I seem to still be low on my sodium according to my food tracing. But that could be just from inaccuracies.

We hv been having lots of rain, but now flash floods because nothing to hold back the soil. Just park of the cycle, but still sad...

We drove through that smoke a few wks ago. At first we thought it was smog...we discovered the sad truth when we saw ash floating.
