Alcohol and Paleo/Primal living

Confession time: I overdid it big time with the drinking last night.
Not very healthy of me, and boy did I feel it this AM. I am wondering how my other Paleo friends handle social outings and the drinking thing? I am fine as long as it's just DH and me, but for some reason, big group outings are more of a challenge.
I'm in need of some sage advice from the folks who've been there and lived to tell the tale.

I'm with you. Had our 3rd annual BBQ party last night. Went way over board.0

I'm with ya there...socially its like I can't help it. I feel awful the next day so I need to stop giving into beer pong and shot roulette challanges lol. I read a sneaky trick somewhere (wish I remembered where) that would stop the drinking peer pressure in social situations: get a glass a drink would be served in, like a rocks glass, and fill it with ice and tonic with like 3 limes and olives if you like them. It looks like a gin or vodka tonic without the booze. Even swapping between this and the real thing would make the next day sooo much better lol0

Hey there. I have discovered since going primal my tolerance for alcohol went way down. So that was what helped me a lot was learning to stop after two or three not caring because any more than that and I will be sick. So try and stretch out the drinks time wise. It will seem like you are drinking along with your friends but just less. And be glad that its way cheaper to drink now! And also, my go to drink has become a white Russian. I know the sugar is high, but I feel like the cream gives the drink some substance and density so it doesn't hit as hard. So if you truly can't stand the thought of ordering or drinking a white Russian, then continue to drink your drink of choice, remember to have a glass of water for every alcoholic drink, and don't feel bad if you don't want more than two!0

Also, agree with what the poster above me said. Just drink club soda and lime and no one will be the wiser. And you will feel better.0

Glad you mentioned the lowered tolerance since Paleo... It hit me hard, all of a sudden.. I think I definitely need to get it down to no more than two and lots of water.
Thanks all for the great advice.0 -
Yeah I used to drink a lot. My tolerance has dropped at big time. So I just drink 12 oz of red wine to give me a sweet buzz.
Guys, if you want to drink a lot then you'll need to eat high carb foods to push your tolerance level higher, so you could drink more. That is the only way I could think or you want to be first person to black out.0 -
We don't drink very often, but if I do I'll have red wine.
Also check out this NorCal (Robb Wolf) Margarita: http://norcalmargarita.com/ (ok, I had no idea this margarita had its own website, lol)0 -
I think I have to eliminate the alcohol completely, it just hits me ten times harder. I do worry about the fun aspect now!0

really high proof alcohols are carb free.
vodka and diet soda or rum and diet coke. yum
only downside is you might eat bad foods whilst drunk0 -

I drank Wednesday, beer! And then had the munches big time! Today's weigh in has me up 3 pounds! The rest of the week I had rocked. Very discouraging and makes me upset with myself. Not only was I drunk so much quicker but I gained all the weight back I had lost the previous week!0

I have noticed that my weight goes up as well the day after drinking. Even if it is only 2 or 3 beers. I do not drink much these days, but I am attempting to cut down even more.
I try to keep the big picture in perspective, but, you are right, it is so discouraging to have a weight jump like that.0 -

I've given up on trying to not drink altogether. I definitely drink less often and I try to make better choices.
Vodka-sodas, Gin-Soda-Lime, or Robb Wolf's Tequila-Soda-Lime margaritas are good. I still can't stop myself from having beer every once in a while though.0
