For my height my weight doesn't show. I'm 15, 5' 8'' and 180 lbs. I saw someone else make progress using this site. I'm looking to lose my tummy fat, that bugs me the most. I really want to wear a bikini for once in my life, and well just lose the fat for me. It would be awesome to have help learning exercises, what foods are better, past experiences of others...etc. I just, need help staying motivated, learning a healthier lifestyle, and it would be awesome to have people to help me out. Thanks! Love, Tiffany(:

Hey!
I've found MFP really easy to lose weight because it's based on calorie allowances - I can't really remember how it works when you start because I've been here over a year, but I think you put in what you weigh now and your target, and it gives you a set amount that you should eat a day in order to lose weight. Mine puts me at 1200. A lot of people recommend eating more than 1200, but I found sticking to this worked for me (if you read the forums, you'll find everyone seems to be different, it's about finding a plan that you can stick with and which works for you).
Diet wise, I'm not so good for advice. I'm a bit of a picky eater, so I don't really eat fruit and veg, though obviously they are good for you. I aim for quite a high protein composition of my diet (when you put food into your diary, it should show you food compositions), but I think anything that isn't totally high fat is fine.
The thing about calorie control is that technically you could eat anything, as long as it's within your calories, and lose weight. But that's not a very sensible strategy because the things that tend to be high calorie and high sugar like chocolate and junk food don't keep you full for very long, so you tend to want to eat more of them.
Hmm, what else can I tell you. Portion control is important as well I guess - not knowing what you normally eat, I can't really comment. If you think you're eating all the right things, then maybe you're eating too much of them, if you see what I mean. So logging everything accurately is important, and not lying to MFP (because ultimately you're just lying to yourself). Weighing scales are good if you do the cooking, then you know specifically what you're eating. If not, perhaps you can pass this information onto the people who do and get them on your side.
Exercise wise, I'm a runner. If you want to take it up, google couch to 5k, which is a good program based on walking and running as a mixture which aims to increase the amount you can do at a time. But really anything cardio based (gets your heart rate up) is good - I cycle and use the rowing machine and ellipticals at the gym just to add in a bit of variety. Lots of gyms do classes and stuff - I guess you need to find out what is available in your area - or you can get dvds which do workout programs, but I've never really tried them. There's also weight training, but equally I'm not really into that so can't advise, other people might have to step in
That probably sounds like a huge amount of information, but if you've got any questions or anything, feel free to add me

Hey there! My name is Jerrica and I am also new to MFP. I have been a member since the begining of last week and have also been doing the 8 week tone up program on fitnessblender.com (a site that has A TON of free excercise videos ranging in intensity from 1 to 10 and in length from 5 minutes to an hour). Just in the first week and these last few days I have lost 3.6 lbs and I am thrilled! I have been logging into MFP religiously, and I find that the groups have really helped me out, as well as having one of those tickers you can get that show you how far you've come and how far you have to go.
Another thing I think has really helped me is the positive talk I've been doing, trying to pump myself up and to celebrate the small victories. The biggest thing is making sure that I DO NOT call myself fat. I remember what it's like to look in the mirror repeatedly and see all the things that could be better, so instead I am trying to look in the mirror and see the things that ARE better. Try sandwiching your criticism, for example, "My arms are looking much more toned! My legs and butt need a little more work so I should do some squats sometime today. Still, I've already lost 3 and a half pounds and I'm feeling great!" Get your friends and family on your side too, either to give you that push in the right direction you need or else to help you keep up the positive talk.
Finally, I don't know about you but I'm a sucker for fad diets. I've tried it all, any get-skinny-quick scam I can find. One of the things I love most about MFP and Fitness Blender is that both sites tell you to do away with the crazy low-carb, high-fat, eat-this-pill-istead-of-food diets and they reiterate the importance of eating healthfully and excercising! If your diet guarantees you are going to lose 20lbs in 5 days, skip it and go for a walk instead. While you may drop those 20lbs initially, it'll come right back on plus some as soon as you finish with the diet. Strive for a lifestyle change that is going to be managable for the rest of your life. Besides, we all want to look good and feel great for our whole life, whether 15, 25, 45 or 95!
So in summary, stick with MFP and the groups (they are lifesavers!), talk yourself up, and eat healthfully and exercise instead of going for a fad diet. I find that snacking on fruits and veggies (or even dry cereal) help get me through the day without upping my caloric intake. Also, make friends on here! These ladies have already motivated me so so much! Feel free to add me as a friend too and keep it up! Your hard work will definitely pay off in the end!0 -
