Protein shakes sabotaging my weight loss?

This past week and a half, I've been eating a protein shake for my dinner. I use Isopure low carb dutch chocolate (1 scoop, which is a half serving and 25g protein, 2g card, 0g sugar).

I know it says very clearly on the packaging that "this is not a weight loss supplement" but I'm only using half a serving and I'm using it as a meal replacement, not a post workout snack or something.

Am I doing something wrong? Anyone else have slow weight loss with a meal replacement shake...?

Here is the basic recipe for my dinner shake:

half cup unsweetened almond milk
2 tbsp ground flax
1 scoop isopure protein
4 frozen strawberries
(sometimes I'll add 1tbsp cocoa powder for an extra chocolatey flavor)

Other info: My net gram carb has been under 40 each day. I eat an egg/veggie (or egg/meat) breakfast everyday and a chicken salad for lunch.

This. Also, some people have issues with dairy - I'm assuming it is whey-based protein source. Same with nuts (almond milk).

Whey is also notorious for stimulating a higher insulin response than other sources of protein (protein causes the pancreas to secrete insulin, too).

Isopure is good honest Whey Protein Isolate. Nothing bad about it. W/o seeing your diary over a period I can't say much else to you.
25g of WPI for dinner isn't much of a dinner. Wonder what your full day looks like?

What do you mean by "slow"? Some people think losing 1 lb a week is slow. I'm not in that camp.
  • I am actually lactose intolerant, but this protein powder is lactose free. I've been wondering about the dairy thing in general. The only dairy I was eating before doing an atkins version of low carb was the occasional greek yogurt. Now, I eat crumbled goat cheese on salads or a mozz string cheese snack a day...maybe I'll cut back on the dairy and see how that goes.

This, also could be a total unnecessary freak out over my scale number. I expected a 1.5 lb loss...and instead it was like .6 or something. Compare that to a few years ago where I was losing 1.5 to 2 a week on weight watchers (but was hungry all the time). But then, I was younger...

FYI I made my diary public if anyone is curious about my protein/fat/carb during the day.

OK so TMI for the guys. But, it is also supposed to be my TOM at the moment...so maybe I have water retention...but my TOM has not come (no, I am not pregnant. I think it may have skipped because I am only this new diet?)

Anyway. I think I may be freaking out unnecessarily. I need to start keeping measurements instead of just what my weight is.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

I'm new to LC but wonder if liquified berries in a shake are a no no because it breaks down the fiber, making it higher carbs and higher glycemic. As a recovering sugar addict I am avoiding fruits as much as possible and add small amounts very slowly. If I do some I do what the Atkins diet recomends and have it with something high fat and not eat the same fruit more than 3 times a week.

Of course if you have been tolerating berries well daily before the shakes with limited fat do ignore all of the above.

4 berries is something like 5 carbs. as long as it fits in her macros, it's likely fine and not the cause.

lots of chicks say their periods mess with stuff, so maybe!

My TOM always stalls my weight.... but once i power-water-drink thru it, it usually goes down! Also, I drink a shake, too, at night but I load it with dairy :/ I can't remember the last time I ate fruit and I kinda feel guilty about it....

Don't worry. Your blender will not trans-mutate your food.
Unless your blender is an enzyme powered chemical cracking tower it can't break down fiber (something not digestible in your upper GI) to something that is. We are talking molecular level here and a mechanical blender just does not operate at that level. If it did the food that it processed would change, not just in texture but in taste and chemical properties.

If a long chain polymer can be broken down into simple sugars by a blender then why would it stop there? Could simple sugars then be broken down into methane gas by further blending?
