Quick (basic) question about fiber and fat content.

So I understand that we determine net carbs by subtracting fiber from carbs listed because our bodies cannot process (insoluble) fiber. But just out of curiosity, I have started eating chia seeds, which have 5g of carbs- all fiber. They also have 4g of fat. How does my body extract the fat from the seeds if the seeds are all fiber?
Just wondering.
ALSO, you guys are awesome.

I use flax meal, which is 4 grams of carbs, 4 grams of fiber. Personally, I count it as 1 carb per serving regardless of the count. I think that is how a lot of people do it. I consider my flax meal buns to be a 2 carb item, even though its 0 carb based on nutrition labels.
  • Why do you count it as one carb?

Personally, I just do it to be safe. We do digest some of the soluble fiber, though its very little. Most of flax seed though is insoluble, not sure how it is for chia. So you could really count it as a 0 carb if you wanted, the impact on blood sugar is very low. Sadly I do not know enough of the science behind fiber to give better answers haha

The fat molecules are not located in the fiber molecules.
