Is this ok?

I started reading old & new Atkins books when I signed up on the site a few months ago. I started to cut carbs as I read & got a base point of information. I started preparing by not bringing anymore of that stuff into the house. Started reading low carb, diabetic, wheat free, gluten free, and glycemic books because of some of the medical issues I am facing.

About 3 weeks ago I started seeing a dietician who put me on a low carb-ish diabetic.

I feel great but the scale isn't really budging.

I walk every morning 30min to 2hrs depending on how my back (degenerative disk) and hip (osteoarthritis) and just this last week I started doing DDP Yoda. These are the only 2 activities my chiropractor has cleared me to do right now. My weight puts to much pain on my joints & I need to work on getting stronger.

I told the dietician I needed more help. Strict & structured. Having too many options is overwhelming. I am a full time student, working an internship, freelancer, and I write full time under a pen name. Life is very busy right now. She was going to see if she could find a Dr plan my insurance covered. No word yet.

Then I remembered (even though some don't like them) Atkins had meal plans here on the site. I might be able to structure myself better with that!

So, would this work?

Breakfast - scrambled egg w/ a pc of cheese or some turkey sausage & some vegi like spinach, mushroom, green pepper, onion ( I like to make those muffin cups so I can eat on my way to park for my walk) OR a Atkins meal bar/shake

Snack - if I need it one raw vegi . The dietician recommended Greek yogurt or Atkins snack bar

Lunch - Atkins meal bar or shake AND salad or cut up vegi

Snack - something like turkey jerky & string cheese

Dinner - lean meat/protein and greens

Dessert - I am not real sure about this.

If I get hungry I guess sugar free jello or broth.

I want to make a weeks worth of meal plans at a time. I do once a month grocery shop then weekly for produce & my budget has dropped since my husband & I are both in school, working full time, me an internship, him clinicals.

I need grocery store items to make it easy.

I need simple & structured. Any help or tweaks is much appreciated.
I think I have information overload.

don't eat atkins products til you're closer to goal weight. lots of people stall on them.. stick to eggs, meats, seafood and veggies and you'll be fine.

greek yogurt (the ones i can find) are 11 carbs. thats pretty high! 15 grams of your carbs should be from veggies.

i eat lots of salad, steak, chicken breast and sauteed veggies.
i love my grill for grilled zuch, and country style pork ribs. yum!

    good luck!

I would also recommend leaving out the Atkins products. The Atkins family sold the trademark to a food company and they have no control over the products. Atknis Nutritionals products would not necessarily be endorsed by Dr. Atkins. He did endorse the original bars but, they are one of the worse tasting bars out there, and they are full of glycerine.

If you can't get enough protein from eating real food (no real reason why you can't though) then use a Whey Protein Isolate drink to up it.

Work a snack into your plans also. Macadamia nuts are very low carb, and maybe some cheese.

+1 to steer clear of the bars.

I'd also try to limit snacking, which would (obviously) mean eating more filling food. If you feel the need to snack then I would suggest eating more at the main meal. I see snacking as interrupting the natural flow of fat-burning and getting the body, hormonally, into 'consumption' mode. Much bettter to get full first up for my money.

I'd stock up on plenty of:

    Eggs
Beef/Turkey/Chicken mince (I make a multitude of dishes out of these in bulk)
    Lean steak
    Tuna (filling)
    Leafy Veg
Cheese (if you can tolerate it)
Spices (to liven things up, I love cayenne pepper)

If you want a snack then a handful of raw nuts, although quite high in calories, has to be better than an Atkins Bar. :) Come to that those little tins of tuna hit the spot too but watch the carbs in the 'flavoured' ones.

Dunno if you are avoiding grains and legumes but I'd give it a go, if only for a week.
