So mine just came this morning!! (That was super fast)
When you did the set up did you change the goal for calorie burned? It said my goal should be 2184 but my TDEE is 2450 or so.
Also did you sync with Myfitnesspal? Do you find that works well?

Just ordered mine like 10 mintues ago!!! Cant wait to try it!0

So far it's pretty neat! I can't stop looking at it though lol0
-
I've had mine for months but am only now able to use it, just set it up last night at 9:30 pm and I wondered the same thing. Hope someone knows the answer. :grumble:0

How long did it take to get it and is it easy to set up? My friend ordered one but is having me set it up and trainer her on it. She is not that good with computers.0
-
i want one sooooo bad...0
-
I ordered it at 10pm on Thursday and it came this morning around 11, and I'm in Canada.0

I helped her order it Saturday online. She was not sure on using the website and I am having it sent to me at work to set up.
Thanks Heidi!0 -
WOW! They just sent me an email that hers is on the way and should arrive hopefully the 19th. Too bad I won't get to see her because she has to work all weekend. At least I will watch here and see how everyone tells you how to set it up.0

Heidi, I did connect it with MFP, and I love it.
This way I put all my food and exercises on here and it transfers it to my FitBit
So I don't need to logg twice
But I can't remember if I changed the calories to burn
I have mine for a few weeks now and I still love it
Had a burn of over 3k yesterday
I am sure you underestimated your burns too
Don't forget to monitor your workouts with the HRM though, cause with lifting etc. it is not correct0 -
Oh, just don't get confused, cause it changes your calories on here.
But you do know your allowance anyway0 -
I have mine synced with MFP but I only log my food here. I am not sure how to have my diary from MFP follow over onto my Fitbit page but I don't mind really. I don't have anything set up on the fitbit page really other than a weigh in and my basic info. I was concerned about the calories at first but really don't pay attention to the Fitbit ones. But they are fairly close to my TDEE-15%. I don't know if that is true for all who use Fitbit but it is for me.
I love seeing the steps, stairs and my sleep! Especially my sleep. Came in very handy when visiting my migraine specialist as they monitor my sleep so I was able to report how I was doing with fair accuracy this visit. I love the weekly reports that get emailed.
Customer service is great too. Mine was not syncing properly, after much emailing and trouble shooting they sent me a new Fitbit. My only complaint is my original one was plum and they sent me a blue one. Not really a big deal in the big scheme of things!!0 -
I was wondering too... mine came through post today so setting it up now. Randomly is added a 99 kcal adjustment to my day despite my steps reading 0 when i synced...
Another question... am i right in thinking you use the timer button for any activity that it won't monitor. On the way home on the tube i noticed it logs steps when the carriage swayed so do i set it to timer then so it doesn't track that??0 -

WOW! That was quick. Have fun.0 -
okay so is the fitbit calories already with a deficit? or would the calories burned be my maintenance?0
-
I think that depends on the setting you put on your target weight. I set mine to my current weight so my goal on fit bit is to maintain. Im on diet break and want to learn my true tdee.
Like you saw on my wall my BMR seems quite low thou just under 1200... scooby has it higher0 -
I plugged mine in at 3:30pm and right now it says I have burned 1450 cals so that doesn't even take into account the swimming I did earlier today as well as any steps I did earlier in the day. Plus there is still 4 hours until midnight so I would guess that it would have had me closer to 2000 cals burned today but not 100% sure.
I'm just confused about what that means then for eating. Do I eat what fitbit says I burned and will that leave me with a deficit still or do I need to subtract 15% from what fitbit says I burned?0 -
I have it synced but the calories aren't changing...I'm so confused about how to do this.0

HAH, just discovered that there is actually a forum on here for fitbit users! Off to read....0

The 1450 it is giving you on your first day is an estimate of what it guesses you would burn based on the information you gave it (ht, wt, activity level, etc). It resets at midnight. For example, when I get up in the morning it typically tells me I burned 300-400 calories while asleep. With your 1450 calories after 20 hours it has given you an average burn of 73 calories an hour. Tomorrow should be much better for you as it will have actual movements to work with.0 -
Oh yes I know that!
That's what I was getting at...that it had logged 145o until that point already not including whatever activity I did prior to that plus my exercise that wasn't logged.
I'm at 1650 now not including earlier activity (I went for a 20 minute walk and swam for about 30 minutes) plus whatever steps I took earlier in the day.
I am already reassured that I have been eating enough now (or maybe not enough) but at least I know my TDEE is most likely pretty accurate.
And in terms of syncing with MFP I think what I will do tomorrow is set my daily goal to my BMR of 1550 and then log exercise calories and then if all works well the fitbit will also adjust calories. BUT I will still eat up to my scooby TDEE even if I don't burn that much one day. Unless someone else has a better way of doing it, please let me know!0 -
Yeah I'm no less confused now than I was last night or this morning. I think I'm just going to go back to my old way of logging on MFP and hope it all syncs over onto Fitbit. I have to do all my food & activity logging on my Android phone and can only sync intermittently when I lug my MacBook to some wifi hotspot. Logging via the Fitbit app sucks because it won't let me custom create exercises.0

Hi everyone
I think your best bet is to go to the Fitbit forum. There is a fellow MFP-er named "Kimsied" there who is super-knowledgeable and helpful. She really knows her stuff when it comes to Fitbit and the syncing between Fitbit and MFP.
Here's a bit of what I know:
Regarding calorie goals. The number displayed on your Fitbit would be your TDEE (on the first day it may be higher than expected because it also includes your BMR & sedentary activity burn since 00h00 that day, not since you "switched it on"). On the fitbit website you can set certain weight loss goals (the typical lose a pount = 500 cal a day deficit), so the website will give you a calorie target depending on the goal that you have selected.
I have found that I needed to change my MFP activity level because I was getting some very high fitbit adjustments on MFP even on days I didn't exercise. And I have also found that my calorie burn was a bit higher than scooby estimates for moderate activity (which I thought I was). But it is so much easier to see your actual TDEE. Once you have worn your Fitbit for a while you can get a daily average which will be a better TDEE to use to calculate your cut value.
[Edit to add: I would definitely suggest only logging food and exercise on MFP and linking MFP and Fitbit. You actually don't need to use the stop / start function for exercise where you measure with a HRM. When you have done the linking you also record a start time for the activity on MFP, then Fitbit will over-write its recorded burn with what MFP tells it you burned during that time]

I actually unlinked mine for now. I am going to use both separately for a week to see my numbers first. Then I will try to link them again.0

For now yes. Probably this whole first week I will just do both until I get a picture of what I am actually burning. Then I will try to link the two. I was just getting so confused.0 -
Is this forum on their site? Trying to get prepped to set up best friends.
Thank you!0 -

Thank you!
They have a forum on their site but there is a group on here for fitbit users.0 -
Thanks Heidi! I will look for that. Hers is expected to arrive Thursday.0

I love my fitbit!
I don't remember setting a TDEE. I let it pick based on my age, weight, etc. It was really close. It adjusts the calories burned by your activity and steps, so it's not set in stone once it's set. It will change depending on how active you are. I'm considered lightly active. And looking at the Fitbit dashboard, it's true, I am not the go-getter I was in my 20s and 30s.
I sync mine with MFP, log my food into MFP, but I log my activity into Fitbit so that MFP doesn't change my calorie goal. That DROVE ME CRAZY in MFP!. I mean, my goal is to lose weight, and activity increases my chances, but MFP would just add those burned calories to what I could eat every day. I hated that!0 -
I just got mine and am patiently (well, sort of patiently) waiting for it to finsih charging.
Setup was super easy and it seems to sync well with MFP!0
