Hi! I am so glad to have found a quitting-smoking group, especially one that has been active for so long! I quit for 6 months (using the patches) but picked it up again the past couple weeks. I feel horrible emotionally and physically as a result and am quitting again tomorrow- but cold-turkey this time. I'm pretty freaked out because trying cold-turkey tends to seriously aggravate my already-present anxiety issues, but I just want to be DONE with nicotine. I've also been at a weight stand-still recently...not quite a plateau...just not putting in as much effort as I should be so I keep bouncing around the same 5 lbs, and I have about 47 lbs left to go.

Feel free to add me- I could really use the support and I love supporting others as well.

Thanks for listening :)

I hate to sound like an infomercial, as I just plugged this book a few posts below, but I highly recommend Allen Carr's book "Easyway to Stop Smoking." It may help with the anxiety because it shows you that the bulk of the withdrawal issues are in your head and not a physical nicotine withdrawal. I found it much easier to quit than I have in the past after reading the book and I am absolutely positive this time that I am done with smoking.

Also, when the urge hits I have been checking a free app on my phone called QuitNow. It tells me how many cigarettes not smoked, money I have saved, and health stats- like carbon monoxide levels back to normal, physical condition has improved 20% since I quit, etc. I am 18 days cigarette free and it's getting easier by the day.

Good luck, there is no doubt this is hard but if you really want it you can do it!

Thank you!!! I will download that app for sure- that should help remind me why I'm quitting when I feel like I'm going crazy. Hopefully I can find that book in the library today too, or find an online version- I've heard great things about it and wish I had been able to pick it up before quitting today.

Did you already quit? If not, that book I recommended asks you to smoke as you read it. It kind of gears you up for the quit and by the end, I was ready. It was very hard but after getting through the first few days of being a nonsmoker, I knew I never wanted to go through that hell again. Day 3 was a monster for me and I never want to experience that again which is a motivation to stay away from the cigs!

I re-quit today :-/ I feel very confident about it this time though! Yesterday I was nervous and just didn't feel good about it. Today, I refuse to even have the "should I?" debate with myself. I know I shouldn't. I have to think of myself as quit...not just trying to quit. I still have the link to the book though, just in case :)

You can do this! I'm coming up on 8 months smoke free. Best of luck to you!
