Running vs Jogging - What's the Difference?

I "run" about a 13 minute pace, but I don't know if I'd call it running...

So what's the difference between running and jogging? Do you have to jog before you can run?

I think we have to start by jogging before running. I jog 4.5 K in 30 min, and still call it jogging... I would call running an under than 10 minute mile speed.

For me.. running is 6mph.. to which I can only do in few minute bursts.. I def. had to "jog" first which was like 4.5mph, my short chubby legs had to acclimate to the idea of moving faster than they ever had before. Anything that that gets a sweat going is awesome either way!

Under 10 minutes a mile seems to be what most people consider to be the threshold...I've got to the point now where I run between an 8-9 minute mile...but then at parkrun I get lapped by the guys who can run 5K in 18 minutes or less...and then I feel like such a jogger!

I've wondered this too, as if jogging takes less effort & running is more serious or something. But then someone posted this brilliant quote and I just see running as running now:)

"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." -- John Bingham
