Rest Days

Do any of you still workout on your rest days? I'm thinking I might start going to the gym on my rest days and ride the bike or do some machines.

I don't run enough to have "rest days" per se. However, I try not to let any day go by without any activity. If I am not in the mood for straight-up exercise, I will do something else.

For example, I will hula hoop for 1/2 hour or go for a walk. This morning I was too tired, so instead I tried a new yoga video. It may even be as simple as taking the stairs as many times as I can or parking the car far away from the store or mall entrance or doing leg lifts while watching TV. I am always trying to make sure I balance my calorie output versus my calorie input..

I totally agree, exercise is exercise...as long as we are getting activity in, we are in good shape. I'm a chef so I'm on my feet all day and extremely active. I suppose I don't necessarily need to do any more extra exercise.

Oh I also wanted to comment about the hula hoop. That sounds like soooo much fun! I don't think I'd get my hips to sway the way they'd need to, though....haha!!

I LOVE to hoop. I was lucky enough to find a Hoopnotica class at a local park district. Once you learn how to keep the hoop up, it becomes easier and you learn how to hoop in other ways than around your hips. It is half fitness and half dance.

How fun! I've never heard of a class like that. I'm afraid I'd have zero coordination for it, though. I'm somewhat clumsy. Sounds like a fun time, though. Maybe I'll buy a hula hoop and give it a try. I wasn't half bad when I was a kid but I was much more limber then. At worst I can give it to my daughter lol

I run 3-4 day a week, cross train 2-3 times a week and fully rest 1 day a week.

That sounds like a great workout plan. I'm going to start doing that too. Today is a rest day from running but I went to the gym and did 15 minutes on the elliptical, 15 minutes on the arc trainer and various machines and weights. It was a nice change since all I've been doing lately is running.

I've been running every other day and doing my Jillian DVD on my off days from running with one, sometimes two, rest days a week. I try to at least go for a walk on my rest days, but that doesn't always happen.

I love rest days...except whole "eating less" thing LOL. I usually do two days on, one day off so I'm working out, on average, 5 days a week.

The weighted hoops used for fitness are easier to keep up. Or so I've heard!
