What strength training did for me :)

So today I completed my first sprint triathlon (1/4 mile swim, 12.6 bike, 5k run) and I had swum twice and haven't ridden a bike in years. Placed fourth or fifth in my age group. It was all about the strength training. Starting in November I did NROL4W, finished that and did P90x which I just finished two weeks ago. I am posting this because I think it is really good to remember that it's not all about weight loss or inches or clothing size but what your body can do for you. Train hard, eat well, and love your body. The rest will follow. Thanks to all the support I have found in this group!!! I can't wait to compete and win my new age group next year (40!) with a little more training and a lot more strength work.

Wow, congratulations! That's very impressive! I wish I could say strength training did the same for me. After three years of strength training (I had completed the programs in the first NROL and had completed NROL4W) I joined a group of women training for sprint tri's. The tri's were a blast, but I was slow in every leg and consistently BOP in my age group. No significant improvement after six events, so I've accepted that I was not cut out for competitive endurance sports. I'm guessing that besides the benefits of strength training, you've got some powerful genes working in your favor. I can't even imagine what in must feel like to come that close to winning. I might do a triathlon again for fun....because they are fun as hell.0 -

Congratulations! What an awesome accomplishment! And a good reminder that the scale is only one tiny little piece of the fitness/health puzzle.0
