Hi low carbers! I need some help! I am in Phase One of the South Beach Diet. I am doing okay and I have not cheated. I am on day 6! I am no longer craving carbs... yay... the trouble is, I am no longer craving anything. I despise food right now. I can't make my 1200 calories. I actually feel disgusted by meat, nuts, cheese and eggs right now. has anyone experienced this? How do I push through it? I want to succeed on this diet, but my body is tired and it literally feels like my body is rejecting the food I am allowed to eat. I am kinda miserable right now. :(

if you're not hungry, there is no reason to eat.

what about vegetables? a small salad or some nuts? protein shake?

On South Beach I am not suppose to have so many things! I feel like there are so many rules! I have been drinking Atkins shakes even though I am not suppose to. I know it helps me meet my protein and gets me some calories with out carbs, so I am just doing it! I am having a little luck with soup with lots of veggies and a little meat. I am just wondering if this happens to anyone else! I literally almost threw up when eating beef yesterday!

I am doing South Beach too, on day 12 now, and went through the same thing. Although I am tracking carbs and calories on myfitnesspal I haven't been worrying too much about the lack of appetite and calories.

One thing I've done to help get some extra calories is making protein shakes with some cottage cheese, flaxseed, cocoa powder and splenda, and using unsweetened almond milk as a base. Also, if I am way under in calories I'll have an appropriate serving of nuts, or some peanut butter stuffed celery. It is really hard to get 1200 calories on meat and veg alone!!

If you're not hungry don't force it, and just eat what sounds good and is on the list and you'll do fine. I'm not falling over dead from lack of calories, in fact I have more energy than I used to on the carb life.

Honestly, it's kind of refreshing to not feel obsessed and controlled by food. Now that I'm not getting all those carb cravings it's weird and hard getting used to actually listening to my body tell me when it is or isn't hungry!

Everyone I know who went on Low carb or fasting has this type of experience. Durations and magnitude vary greatly put the pattern seems the same.

1- Irritable, hungry, unsure , staying on plan is work
2 - over the carb flu, appetite is way suppressed, find it hard to eat as much as they planned. Staying on plan seems too easy.
3 - Things smooth out, able to make better choices. Not as many good days followed by bad days. getting on an even keel.

When starting out I say eat what ever is legal on your plan , as much as you need, to keep you from cheating.
