Hi I have just started this diet as I have been so miserable about my weight. From reading... I think I am early in the stages of my Fibromialgia. I suffer from joint pain and struggle to sleep. My symptoms have slowly deteriorated over the last few years and I feel sometimes that no one understands what i'm going through. I always feel hungrier at night but I think it's because I'm not sleeping and I get so bored. Was really pleased to find this group :) What type of meds do people use... mine are useless and I feel like my doctor doesn't get it. Started on Amitryptiline then transferred onto Citalopram and sleeping tabs which aren't massively effective. Any advice gratefully received xxx

Hi there and welcome. So sorry to hear your problems, I think of all the things fibro is the worst is the lack of sleep, it's so debilitating and of course starts that blasted cycle you never seem to be able to get out of. I've had fibro for nearly 20 years and the one most important thing I've learned is to trust myself and listen to my body (okay that's two). Doctors are really important, is it possible to find one or be referred to a rheumatologist? You need someone who will listen. Medications do different things for different people and what may work for one won't for another, as I'm sure you know. I take a sleep medication that doesn't help me fall asleep but it does help me stay asleep which for me is more important. So many of the fibro meds cause weight gain as well as fibro itself due to decreased ability to exercise. I walk as it's easy, and I can manage my own pace.

I stopped going to gyms or clubs as the competitive part of me always wanted to keep up which is the worst thing for me to do as then I'm sore for days! Silly me took ages to figure that one out!.

Anti-inflammatories are also good they not only help with pain but keep muscle swelling down.

PLease feel free to add me as a friend, I started this in May and I've been able to really increase my walking both by distance and speed as well as managing to lose weight. Friends are a must, they provide encouragement and help you stay the course.
