You didn't list Star trek, so you might not like this, but how about Seven? (of nine)

    or

I've always wanted to name a pet L.O.L. , I think it would be a good name, or LMAO., but "LOL" is easier to say..

or you could use a phrase, we named one of our kitten fosters "Socks with sandals" ..

If you're leaning toward big bang theory, what about leonard's mother's name? Beverly Hofstader (spelling??) or just Beverly.

    Dana or Scully

    Aeryn
    Chiana
    Zhaan

Sorcha - pronounced (take your pick :) ) sor-ka, sir-ka or surra-kah (gaelic pronounciation) - Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier

    Pop culture (ish)....

    * Indy/Indiana. Named after George Lucas' dog, Indiana, who supposedly inspired the name for Indiana Jones and, also, Chewbacca.

Not pop culture, but a bit geeky...

    * Laika after the first dog in space. I've always loved that name for a dog (and it comes up a surprising number of times in trivia and few people seem to know... a handy fact to have!).

    * Toppy after the series of cloned service dogs in Korea, which is kinda cool/scary/freaky (all Labs, iirc, so bonus if you're getting a Lab ;))

I'm surprised no one has mentioned K-9, the Doctor's dog ;).

I would first just get a dog. Often the name comes to you and if you pick a name beforehand it may not suit the dog.

My friend named her Bernese Mountain Dog "Denny". So that when he comes in you can go "OH HAI DENNY."

    ....you get it, right?

I'd love a dog, and when I get one it will be male so I can name him Rory (from Doctor Who).
Because they'll both be adorable and great companions. :)

Also, like myself Rory is a bit of a Scottish name if you like that kind of thing, and can also work for a female (as seen on the Gilmore Girls).

So, OP what did you decide?
We haven't entirely decided yet! She won't be born for another 2 weeks, and we won't know until then whether she's black or yellow.

Willow if she is yellow, for sure. My husband likes Darby if she's black (Darby O'Gill being a St. Patrick's Day staple in our house and us loving all things Irish). I dunno. Still taking suggestions into account! I've gotten some great ideas, though lots are male and we will definitely be getting a female. If I could get away with Samwise for a girl, I would!

Sure you can, it can be short/long for Samantha. or you can name her Samantha, and just call her Samwise.

this site gives the Elvish translation of names.

    http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/elvish/girlnames.html

for example Dana translates to Erunanethiel (Air-oo-nahn-ehth-ee-ell)

here is another site cannot guarantee they are authorized by the EPA (elvish preservation association)

Well, we circled through our geek name list and went back to Irish. We're going to name her Finley (Finn). She's due to be born next week! Thanks again for all of the ideas that helped us to brainstorm!
