Gluten Free Vegan Friendly Restaurants in New York?

Can anyone suggest some good places in NYC? I'm going up for a little over a week so I would love several options. I've searched online, but would appreciate some first hand suggestions.

I happen to live in NYC! What area are you going to? Though in reality NYC isn't very big geography wise, if you are going to be in Queens you probably don't want to trek to lower Manhattan or something just for a restaurant! Assuming you will be in the Manhattan area, here are some places I like to go:
Lula's Sweet Apothecary, in the lower east side. Not really a restaurant, but a sweet little ice cream shop that serves only vegan desserts, and has a gluten free cone option! The cost of gelato in NYC is usually $4, and at Lula's a scoop on a cone comes out to around $3.80 I think, so a pretty good deal! I haven't been there this season, but I REALLY need to. The flavors are always different, but last summer I twice had blood orange flavor and it was CRAZY GOOD.
BabyCakes, also in the lower east side. A bakery with a ton of gluten free, vegan options as well as other allergy-friendly options. I had a brownie here once, and I have been meaning to go back!
Vegetarian's Paradise 2, in the west village. This place has amazing veg/vegan foods! They are good about dietary needs, and the menu notes if something isn't vegan. I love this one dish that I think is called Mango "Chicken", with tofu, veggies, brown rice, and mango served in the scooped out skin of the mango! So good! There is also a wonderful stuffed lychee appetizer. Prices are pretty good, I think most dishes are around $12, and big portions.
Hangawi, in korea town (near Penn station)- this is an AMAZING vegan Korean restaurant with a special gluten-free menu. A bit pricy, and there can be a wait for dinner so reservations are a good idea. There is a lunch special, but I don't know if the gluten free foods are included. This is probably the most beautiful restaurant I have ever been to! The decor is amazing, and the food is even better!
Hampton Chutney Co., SOHO and the Upper West Side (near the museum of natural history). This place serves South Indian style foods, and they specialize in Dosas and Uttapams, which are similar to hearty crepes and pancakes-- and are gluten free! They come with a ton of different toppings and fillings, many of which are vegan. The atmosphere is hippie-casual, and there are usually a ton of moms with babies. Meals are around $10-$12.
Most Thai restaurants-- there are a million everywhere, and they are usually pretty good! I always find something I can eat
OK I hope this helps! Let me know what areas you will be visit and I can send you some more suggestions. I live in Brooklyn myself, but I work in Manhattan so I have a pretty big range of places I eat/play!0 -
Thank you! The only one I've heard of so far is BabyCakes (I've made their brownies at home using a recipe but I wanted to make sure to visit and try the real thing.) Those sound great, I will definitely add them to the list (I am drolling over Vegetarian's Paradise 2's menu now.) I will be staying in the Financial District (Stone Street), but I will have plenty of time to make it around to other areas.0

I haven't gone out to eat in the Financial District yet, but there are a lot of interesting historical taverns in the area. There is one really neat street called Coenties Street that is all cobblestones and is closed to traffic. It is lined with restaurants with outside seating. I have no idea if there are any good food options for a gluten free vegan, but I walked through there recently and it looked so neat! I would suggest venturing beyond the Financial District for more interesting food. Just take a train uptown a few stops (or a taxi). You can also check out Chinatown-- there are a few veg Chinese restaurants. My favorite is Buddha Bodai.0

I'm tagging along on a business trip, so for 5 of the days I will have nothing better to do than go around and explore different areas. Thank you for all the suggestions, I was going to try to go off these maps https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=215541708669743172953.000463eb6f9496e7c7e29&z=11 http://supervegan.com/results.php?v=1 but I really prefer having someone's actual opinion of a place (No one I know that lives there has any dietary restrictions so I've only gotten pizza or soup place recommendations), I also noticed a few places list are now listed as closed so I don't know how accurate either of those are.0
