Hi, my name is Vanessa. I recently lost 97lbs, and have been seriously considering joining the fitness competitions. I still have an extra 30lbs to lose before I start gaining muscles and whatnot. I am willing to take any advice, and as much advice as possible. I am 5'2", currently weighing 163lbs. I am a stay at home mom, so my hands are usually full with my baby(1 y/o)... Help? lol

My biggest word of advice to someone that is new to fitness competitions and wants to get started is to hire a coach. I wish I had taken that advice sooner myself, but since I have, the changes I've seen in my body have been incredible. There are many coaches that will do your nutrition and workout programs completely online for you, and tailor your program to fit your life (stay at home mom, etc.)

One thing I will mention, and I'm not at all saying this to discourage you (just being realistic) is that at 5'2", for most bikini/figure/fitness competitions, you should expect to take the stage in about the 100-120lb range (depending on which division and your muscle mass). I'm only mentioning this because you made the comment about losing 30 more pounds before building muscle. I'm 5'10", 2 weeks away from a competition, and 138 pounds.

Very true. I am 5'5" and I competed weighing 128-130lbs. I was one of the "heaviest" competitors there. Some people can pull it off and look fantastic. So, just plan ahead like she said. You'll know when you are ready. Just give yourself enough time. Good luck!
