If it doesn't give you hot flashes! (It doesn't for me, thank God).

That is so awesome! I've been toying with the idea of eliminating my nightly glass of red wine to reduce my calorie consumption. I think I'll keep enjoying my Cabernet for now.0

Um, no. As anyone with even a hint of breast cancer in the family, this is such a bad idea, IMO. My mother died of breast cancer when I was only 31. She drank, I don't. Even as few as a couple of drinks per WEEK are problematic for those at higher risk of breast cancer. I'm not willing to take the chance on any type of alcohol myself. I already drank earlier in life, so I don't need it now at age 65. Plus nearly every type of alcohol increasingly gave me a bad headache, or tummy ache, even with a little bit, so I got the hint that this is NOT for me. But this is just personal. People are free to do what they want.0

I AGREE WITH THE OP!!!:drinker:
Yes, there are multiple studies all indicating a nightly GLASS*** of wine is beneficial to one's health.
(***to poster above, note, the word GLASS, not bottle, is used. There is no argument whatsoever, that overdosing on any type of booze, has deleterious effects on one's health. Frequently Overdosing on most anything, is probably a bad idea).
And i myself dont' think two glasses is bad idea, either, not 'off the hook' or anything. I am not a small woman, though, very tall, and currently, NOT slim either, lol!!!!!!! A person's size can influence how much is too much for that person.
And i have times, i will choose to overdose on booze,:drinker: and get quite tipsy!!!!!! I usually plan for that, and diet all day, so i can geta nice buzz on less booze.
Nope, i don't do that every night, nor every week, and sometimes, not even every month.
but, i do get myself good n tipsy now and then:laugh: . No one is harmed, i don't drive. I just laff really hard and sometimes, i dance around, is about the worst of the damage done for an occasional party night..but sure, sure, if i did that every night, wowza, yeah, i'd suffer all types of problems, including health problems.
However, i don't see my occasional party nights as harmful as the times i eat an entire pizza, or an entire box of cookies, or days i sit on my butt all day long. For real, i think that is more harmful, too.
Here are some other links,
to other articles
on the health benefits, of a nightly "GLASS" of red wine
Red wines (and possibly red grape juice) may help reduce Cardiac disease.
from Mayo clinic, but what would they know.

RED wines might help reduce risk of cancer, not increase it.

LOOK! something that both MSNBC and Faux news agree on:laugh:
that a nightly GLASS of red wine might be healthy for a person. If you are going to drink, might as well make it be a red wine, i guess!0 -
As a breast cancer survivor myself I will go on record as saying that I will have a glass most nights (although I do try for a couple of 'dry' nights a week) and my tipple of choice is red wine. Every person's experience and risk of cancer is different but, all through my treatment, I asked the medical team if I was okay to have a drink. Even during chemo. No doctor or nurse ever said I shouldn't drink - I was only advised to avoid getting dehydrated during radiotherapy. I refused to give up who I am during treatment and I am a person who likes a nice glass of Shiraz. Or Malbec. Or Chianti.....I'm really not fussy...

I am currently on strict budget, can not afford top shelf wines.
I've always preferred white wines, specifically a wine from a local lovely winery, not too too far from my home,
to support my local economy, lol, i'd drink Tabor Hill Demi Sec,..........lovely wine for about $8 per bottle, light and crisp. NO idea if one can buy it anywhere but here, though...?
But for parties, i usually drank rum + diet coke, and sometimes still drink rum + diet coke. (no carbs, no sugars, btw, and easily tweaked to control one's level of buzzed......)
But, since finding out red wines may have health bennies,
i have been cultivating more of a taste for red wines,
and LOVE David West's Pinot Noir.....love that wine!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Found that one while researching best red wines under $20, it has even won awards......after a glass, one can see why.:drinker:
but, at $10 to $12 per bottle,
at a glass per night,
it adds up and exceeds my budget. So i only buy that one if i have company or something.
So i have found a fairly generic, affordable brand of Merlot that i like, not sweet, slightly challenging, almost has a smokeyish taste at times...nah, smokey is not right word, i don't know wine words, sorry. It's a deep taste maybe.
and do like some Cabernet sauvignon, too, but am not great yet at picking one out. I am new to red wines, really, still exploring around on a budget. lol!0 -

OH, we posted at same time! i like your post, and hope for your continued progress and health and enjoyment of life!! Go Skudsister!!
yeah, that is GREAT point, about rehydrating after one imbibes, i think that is so important. Occasionally, i find the glass of wine helps me loose water when i have eaten too much salt and am carrying extra water.....Obviously, it'd be better to just not eat too much salt, but, sometimes i do.:blushing:
(leaves to google Malbec, ha ha) might have to try that one, i am new to red wines.0 -
Hey Jane, Did you have liver and fava beans with your Chianti????
sorry0 -

I love red wine but can't drink it for at least two hours before bed without getting the most horrendous night sweats :-(
I live in hope that I will grow out of this at some point!0 -

I noticed alcohol had started to give me night sweats (and my heart races too) a couple of years before I had any other menopause symptoms......it was only then I put 2 and 2 together!0
