Hernia Q

So mid way through July while on vacation I got this strange pain in my side right at one of my incision points that met all the criteria/symptoms for a hernia. I know from my own mother's experience with hernias that if it wasn't big or bad enough to operate on yet the doctor would just tell me to rest and let it have a chance to heal so I stopped working out and have babied it. It took less than a week for me to be able to walk without holding the spot and now I'm 2 weeks pain free. For those of you who have either had small hernia's or something similar how long did you let it heal before going back to the gym? What I don't want to do is keep spending money on gym fees for a facility I'm using and want I want to do even less is go back too soon and turn a minor injury into another surgical procedure.

I don't know much about hernias, but I have a knot in my abdomen and I can press on it and it will make a sloshing noise. The MD said it was a seroma which is a fluid filled sack where the fat doesn't heal from the incision, but I don't think so. Doesn't hurt just very weird to hear it slosh around in there....kinda entertaining
