Cytomel

Has anyone taken this? I started it on Friday. I am on a very low dose and not noticing anything yet. My T3 was not increasing with the synthroid so doctor added this. I'm curious why some doctors are hesitant to prescribe it.

Did anyone have success losing on it? What dose was required to see weight loss? Any other side effects?

Any info would be great! Thanks so much

    Hi there,

I am on a syntactic T3 at 20mcg a day with 50mg of T4. been on it now 6 weeks, i take the T4 going to bed and the T3 when i first wake up.
I have not seen many affects as yet, still foggy brain still tired, just cannot exercise, grumpy on and off.
However i have stopped gaining weight at the rate of almost a LB per week, but as yet there has not been any weight loss.

I had tried Armour which i had to get myself as no one here would Px it. I was loving how i was on it, but was worried about self medicating. So now seeing a new Endo going back for a second visit on 21/08/12 to see how the numbers are on her T3/T4 Px. If the numbers are normal i think i will go back to armour because i know within a month i will be feeling normal again.

previous to taking charge of my own health and demanding a referral to a Endo with a good knowledge of Hypo i was on T4 only for 10 years, was doing OK up till major stressors last Autumn, then all hell broke loose and i crashed big time. since then i have been trying to educate myself on the best way forward for me. not always easy as i don't retain much of the information i am reading. Check out http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ really helpful face book page also https://www.facebook.com/groups/stopthethyroidmadness/

good luck, you are not alone.

Just curious how you get Armour yourself without a script? Thanks.

I love my cytomel. My endo wanted me to add it to my synthroid. She reduced my synthroid and added 5mg of cytomel, when I was sleeping 1/2 of the afternoon she added 1/2 a tab of cytomel at noon and when I felt it was too much I reduced it to about 1/3 a tablet at noon. I am awake, loosing weight (very slowly) and feel much better. Your doctor needs to know how to adjust the dose of synthroid for the addition of cytomel, if not then you end up hyper and that is when I get very tired and hungry and can't loose weight. It all depends on the quality of care and knowledge that your doctor has concerning the use of this medicine.

Cytomel is popular on body building forums as part of a stack but I don't know if can get it in UK without prescription.

I found Tiromel on eBay once and got some but can't find same guy and mine's run out. I'm trying a T3 booster thing thats meant to boost the amount of T3 you're body makes. I think my T3 levels are low. I'm only on T4 and that's all they will give me.

I am on cytomel, too. I feel better than when I wasn't on this as well. I ASKED for it, to give it a try. I do not have a thyroid at all, so I'm one of those that rely on the med combination completely. Good luck! Remember it DOES take a little while to see how you'll really feel with it. My dr. started me on a low dose too.
