I had a full thyroidectomy, it took two surgeries a week apart and I was a mess. Unfortunatley I had NO voice for 6 weeks, it was horrible and I feel for you. I used cough drops and honey to help with the voice and throat but the best things was simple talking as little as possible. The more you talk to worse it is going to be. You can talk to your doctor about steroids which do help but are over all not the healthiest, I guess that depends on how bad you want your voice. I took the max does of steriods (as there was fear I would never get my voice back) and it still took time. I still do not have full capability with my voice. I can talk just fine but cannot raise my voice much at all. It has been 9 months since my surgery! I WISH YOU THE BEST!!! I know how frustrating it can be.

Ps, one question, how have you been loosing weight. I cannot lose a single pound since my surgery :(

I had a total thyroidectomy two years ago. It took me about 7-8 weeks before I could speak clearly and even then my throat would get dry really soon and I couldn't speak loudly almost the entire first year.

Honey, cough drops and warm (but not hot) beverages helped somewhat, but not much really. The best you could do is to give it time.

As for losing weight, it takes time and patience. It took me more than a year to drop the first pound. You have to accept that there's very little you can do about it until you your meds right, and even then you have to be very persistent and never let a bad day put you off your game. But it's possible! I lost 30 pounds in the past year!

I had a total thyroidectomy and I didn't lose my voice. It was hoarse but I never lost it. I would call and ask your doctor.

I had a total thyroidectomy 8 months ago.My voice was hoarse only the first and second day. After that it was back to normal.
i remember drinking lots of fluids: warm tea ,milk (warm with honey or cold- try to avoid hot drinks) and i also had a bit of ice cream in the first few days.
