HI! I am new here to this website, and new to this group. Glad to find there are some 'mature' ppl here after all! ha ha.
I am 55, but, i have a heart condition which limits how much activity i can tolerate. I was always fit and heatlhy til about 5 years ago, had a heart attack, and multiple cardiac issues now, several different arrhythmias, and very very floppy valves which contribute to the arrhythmias as well,
so i am glad to find this group, which hopefully wont' tell me i need to start jogging, try Zumba, or marathons, etc. who knows, maybe maybe, maybe, i can get that strong again but for now, i am just looking to get started in right direction!!!!!!
The recent weight gain has only excaberated the stress on the heart, causing sort of a viscous cycle thing there!!
and now,
i have really let myself go.
I am 5-8 tall,
currently weigh 174,
and want to get to 140 or 145 lbs,
I have never really dieted before, never really had to til this age. OH, i'd diet a bit here or there, now and then, to get extra slim, but, now, i have to really diet and learn how to lose weight. I am hoping/expecting,
that at first,
at first, i might make quite a bit of progress right off the bat, and then, later on, have to struggle to get last pounds off, is how i am picturing this.
Today is my first day here, my first day attempting to get healthy again.
I have not been working in past 4 years, and have become overly sedentary. I am very flabby now, and weak. I recently learned i will be single again soon after being in relationship for 15 years, and i will need to start life over again,
get a job again,
get a new place,
do more things for myself again,
and so you can see, even though i am not "over 50 lbs to lose" i have to get fit enough again to work, and to resume life again, ha.
I have decided i am now looking fwd to being single again, and for one thing, i look fwd to having total control over what type of food is IN my kitchen again, as i recall, when i was slim, i found it easier to resist junk food once a week in the store,
than it is every 20 minutes in my own kitchen.
currently, i can walk, but due to flabbiness and my heart palpitating, i am only able to walk about 15 minutes, at a normal pace, not "speed walking" or anything yet. I feel pretty sure, if i get this weight off again, that my heart will become stronger again, too.
I hope.
The one good thing here is, it would seem i can only go in one direction from here
getting BETTER! I want to get stronger, healthier, more fit, and more able to tolerate activity well.
At any rate, hello to all! WHAT HAS WORKED FOR YOU ? I have no idea which diet is best for a mature person to go on.
ALL TIPS WELCOME!!!

I just joined this site. I have tried so many "diets" that I know I need a change for the better. I know I need to eat small meals throughout the day and drink plenty of water. I started off the summer and got discouraged when the heat became unbearable. You used a word that I can identify with--control. You have the right attitude. Take care, Bev0

Hi BlueJean. I am so sorry for all the problems going on right now for you. My thoughts are with you and hope you find the strength to get through all of it. You have come to the right place. I for one will not tell you to jog, zumb, run, whatever! LOL As RilyeRed said, chair exercises. If you go online, you could probably find a site to show you a few. I know we can do "marching in place" while sitting in a chair, arm swings, arm jacks ( I call them that, because I can not do a jumping jack) just bring arms up for the jack part of it! lol Also, shadow boxing. Just bring out your arms one at a time as if you are boxing someone (close your eyes and you can pretend it is the person who ended the relationship) ROFLOL. glad you are here and good luck to you. Walking is so good, even if just for a bit. My walks were slow, but I was doing a mile before my hip started acting up. Just start out slow, increase each week, as much as you can, and before you know it, BOOM, you are getting much better.0
