Heart Rate Monitors

Do any of you have heart rate monitors? Since the heart beats differently than most people I was wondering if a heart rate monitor for a person with a CHD would be accurate.

I do use a HRM. My defect was a Sinus Venosus ASD with PAPVR. It has been repaired. I also have arrhythmia. I used a HRM in rehab so I just kept with it. For running I use a Garmin with chest strap. For everything else I use the $80 walmart proform with chest strap. Both seem to work just fine.

I don't know anything about your specific defect, but maybe give your cardiologist a call and ask before investing in it. If you do get one, be sure to get one with a chest strap for accuracy.

Thanks! I think I will do that when I see him in a couple months.

Well, to follow up to my original post, I did see my cardiologist this month and asked him about HRMs with my CHD. He said it shouldn't be a problem at all, and would be effective. I bought the Polar FT7 and it is awesome. I highly recommend it. I have been burning more calories doing my exercises than MFP has told me.
