Tips for regulating speed

When I am not on a treadmill I run too fast and tire out easily. I have no idea how to figure out how fast I am running when I am not on the treadmill. What can I do to try and maintain a decent pace when I am running outdoors?

You will run slower on an outside path than on a inside treadmill due to the enviroment.
Start with short comfortable steps at a jogging pace. Run for several minutes at this pace. Monitor your breathing. If it gets to be to much, slow your pace. If your breathing is comfortable, speed up your pace slowly. You will quickly determine how fast you can run for longer periods.
If you start off too quickly, you will find yourself out of breath shortly. It will be hard to recover quickly by just slowing your pace until your breath recovers. Therefore start slow and build up your speed when you are at a comfortable pace.
I run a track (0.25mi laps) and time my laps to determine my speed. I also run a park loop where I know the distance of the loop and time the laps.
Start slow and build up...You will find your comfort zone quicker than starting fast...Once you find your comfort zone, you know what you have to work on to get the speed you want...This is what I am doing...0 -

I wear my smartphone in an armband with Nike plus running - then I can check pace periodically.0
