Metabolic Reset?

I'm brand new to EM2WL! I have plateaued at a 53lb loss and am ready to get moving again!

Here are my stats...

Age: 30
Weight: 234
Height: 5'7"
I have a desk job, but I also have three small kids to chase and am at the gym 4-5 days a week for at least an hour doing either cardio or lifting (LOVE Body Pump!). I labeled myseld "moderatly active"...
TDEE: 2854
BMR: 1841

I have only been netting about 1500 calories, so I think I need to do a reset. I'm kinda confused on how to go about this though---is it just a one week deal, eating your TDEE and not working out? After the week, can I return to the gym and start cutting? 15% for me is 2426---my workout calories are factored into that, right?

Any advice for this newbie? I'm excited...I love lifting and a friend introduced me to HIIT a few weeks ago. I love my classes at the gym, but I know I need to mix it up some.

    Hi there.
A metabolic reset is eating at TDEE for a period of at least 4-12 weeks, with 8 weeks being an ideal amount of time needed. Your body has gone through a VLC diet in the past, it needs a lot of time to be able to trust you again and know you arent starving it.. Anything shorter in time is basically a "binge" to your body and it will just hold on to everything you give it, thinking the starvation is coming behind it.

You can get some Reset help from the thread in the stickies: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/657368-metabolism-reset-eating-at-tdee-support-thread

Or you can check out our new forums at http://forums.eatmore2weighless.com/index.php for more information as well.

A reset is basically taking a step back from dieting... its reclaiming your mateabolism, allowing yourself to be ablt to eat the amount of food you should have before, and then hopefully get the weight off in a healthy, attainable manner that KEEPS it off.
    Hope this helps:)

That does help!!! Thank you! I totally didn't realize it was that long!!! Is one week off from the gym enough to rest and recover or do I need to take more? I'm terrified of gaining a ton while eating my TDEE, but honestly, I have been stuck for so long I'm willing to try!

I continued my workout routine during my reset. It is factored into your TDEE so you can do whatever activity you want.

how necessary is it to do the reset? I honestly don't think I was eating a very low amount of calories generally. maybe days here and there, but overall I don't think I was.
