Went to my first powerlifting meet - I was just a spectator, and a couple of my friends were competing.

And I'm addicted - the atmosphere was awesome. And I just checked the state records - I'm only about 100 lbs off from making the state record on squat and deadlift, so I really should try, I guess.

Now I definitely have a goal other than weight loss! Let's go for that 600 lb squat and DL!

And I like the fact that it's 100% Raw - no drugs, no suits, no straps (except for a support belt). This is solely man vs. metal.

Glad you had a good time. Get on the platform and compete, you'll love it.

But no federations are drug free. They're tested, but not drug free. I know people who have competing in 100% Raw that use. There will always be guys setting records who are using, thats just part of the sport.

Nice to know that power earned naturally won't disappear because you stop taking drugs. Its not worth it, for what a record. Stay the course those guys come and go, natural stays in the game forever.

That's disheartening - if the federation is trying to be steroid and enhancement free, then damn it, if you use then go somewhere else! I take pride in my strength being pure (unless you consider an occasional ibuprofen), and if I'm going to compete, I want it to be against others who have enough honor to do the same.

Louie Simmons and Chuck Vogelpohl are both pretty damn old and tearing it up still. And it's safe to say both of them have used for years and years.

I can understand how you feel, wanting to compete against other natural guys. But for the most part powerlifting is competing with yourself so I wouldn't worry too much about what the other guys are doing. If you get on a platform and set PRs, you're doing something 90 percent of the lifting population is too chicken**** to ever do.

*chuckles* I go out in public wearing a kilt and throw trees for fun - getting up on a platform and picking up some iron takes no courage for me. I just want to go up there and actually earn my placing (not too many superheavyweight competitors).

very true. I did a smaller meet last April and there were only two 308s. Pretty sure there weren't any SHWs.

I competed at 165 and only had one other guy.
I liked that aspect of the meet since it was my first time, but would enjoy more competition in the future.

Where do you find out where these meets are? I'd love to see one, then work up to competing!
