My name is Jessica and I'm new to this little group, and to Paleo.
What are your stances on organ meats? (liver, kidneys, hearts)
And if any of you eat them, have any good recipes?
I'm slightly revolted at the idea but I've decided to suck it up and try liver, who knows, I might be missing out!

I "don't like" liver. But to be fair, I've only ever had it the way my mom makes it, with onions. I've discovered that I enjoy many things that I didn't like the way my mom made them. So I'll give liver a shot again one day. But today is not that day. :laugh:0

I'm curious also! Hubs and I were just discussing getting some liver but I am at as loss as to how to cook it. When I was a kid, I had chicken livers a couple times but they were breaded and deep fried.... So ya know, not allowed lol0

I tried a couple of Wurlitzer steaks - wasn't impressed....0

I'm Jewish, so chopped liver is a staple hors d'oeuvre at all family holiday dinners. I have no idea how to make it, but it's from chicken livers chopped with hard boiled eggs, salt, and I don't know what else. Now I buy it from the Jewish deli or whole foods at the Jewish holidays.
I also like beef liver, and have made it a few times. Soak in milk to take out bitterness. I used to dredge flour. But it can just be Sauteeed in butter and be yummy. I do make it with onions because hubby likes them but I don't.
Aside from thanksgiving turkey hearts and liver cooked in butter and chopped and added to gravy, I haven't had hearts.
I try to make liver once every couple of months.0 -
Organ meats are healthy and definitely something our ancestors were eating.
I think it's especially important that the organs come from a free-range or wild animal. I like liver (only once or twice per year) but won't eat it from the store. People where I live eat caribou organs (stomach contents too) and seal liver and probably many other things I don't know about.
I would suggest finding different recipes and trying something you didn't like the first time, again. When I don't like something, that I know is good for me, I always try it again and again. Sometimes it takes awhile to develop a taste for unfamiliar foods, and in the case of marine mammals up here, sometimes it takes awhile for the body to get used to the new food too.0
