Exercise

So I'm just past one month post op and I've been cleared to do swimming and light cardio exercises. No weights yet.

What kind of exercise did everyone do when starting out, besides walking, and for how long?

I have been going to the gym and doing cardio for about 45 minutes everyday. I am also going to start swimming for about an hour a few days a week.

Thanks for your advice and help...I really want to make the most out of the first year to get as much of the excess weight (220 lbs) off by then.

=)

I started out just walking on the treadmill. Once I was cleared to get in the pool I added swimming laps to my workout. I just started small and worked my way up to where I am now.

I started out in the pool and only recently started strenght bands for core. I'm giving up the pool though as it's eating my hair and no amount of protein is helping because it's the pool chemicals. My daughter has a running club at her school where they go to 5Ks so I'm thinking about starting to walk them until I can run them with her as my next step and it's cheaper than a gym membership.

I started out walking on a treadmill, then moved to weights!

I love to swim, but I don't do it! At about four months post-op I started losing hair despite 80-100g of protein a day and taking my B vitamins + Biotin! Pool chlorine would have made that even worse. I'm now 6 months post-op and the hair issue is starting to get better.

If you shower before and after and wear a cap it might be ok, but even the sulfates in shampoo exasperate the situation.

Weight are great to add a little muscle that will burn the fat faster. The muscle also helps give definition to your soon sagging skin. For me, as the fat left it was cool to see muscle and definition in my arms, legs etc.

    You will do great!!!
