Im aiming for around 40 - 60g a day and was wondering how to keep within this on a night a out. Im fairly new to all this so sorry if this is a silly questions.
Im going to see a band with some friends tonight and everyone will be drinking so just wondering what I can consume which doesnt push me over the edge. I know obviously alcohol is high in carbs, but was thinking more soft drinks etc as Im cutting down on my alcohol intake for the time being anyway! Just wondering what, other that water, I could have.
Any suggestions are most welcome

It depends on my mood but my current favorite is cherry vodka with club. Like an adult shirley temple.
With all of the flavored vodkas your combos are limitless
How about orange vodka, whipped cream vodka, and club.
Beer - I drink Becks light
Wine - Yellow tail tree free chardonay

Tricky ... soft drinks aren't my area of expertise
Anything naturally sweet will be full of sugar, fruit juice is a nightmare, anything 'diet' will be full of artificial sweeteners (vodka and diet coke comes to mind as a low carb but Aspartame rich option). Any spirit and diet coke I guess would fit the bill.
I'd just drink red wine and alternate it with some water to be honest.
Having said that you are looking at a guy that put away many pints of real ale a week ago so what do I know?
I'd concentrate on enjoying the night out and not worry too much (within reason) about the carbs.
(edit) As an aside I would say that any food that you are likely to consume (especially after a few drinks) will be more of a minefield than drink. Go out on a nice full stomach is my rule. Eggs and bacon work for me

liquor is not at all high in carbs.
club and vodka
diet and rum
any mixer with no sugar/most liquor of choice0 -
diet soda and tequila, rum, vodka, whisky.
don't get flavoured alcohols, and make sure it's really high proof.0 -

This is a fair point, I dont want to let it rule my life! A glass of red wouldnt hurt.
Thanks for all the other suggestions re. vodka and sugary drinks
I try not to drink soft drinks as a general rule so club and vodka suits me just fine
Thanks!0 -
I stick to white wine or one of the following:
Vodka & diet coke
Dark rum & diet coke with lime
Gin & slimline tonic with lime
Vodka, lime & soda water0 -
went out last night, had 4 vodka sodas with 3 limes for each glass. didn't gain a pound this morning...
only a headache.0 -
Always use the rule:
80 proof liquor and higher has 0 sugar. Combine with diet soda for an occasional drink.
Once ingested the body will burn the alcohol for fuel first and then hopefully go back to fat if you are/were in ketosis.0 -

Haha snp I feel your pain - I'm headachey this morning as well0 -
I had 5oz of Vodka last night. I was under the very mistaken impression that vodka is low in calories and carbs. Well, when I logged my drinks, there were no carbs listed (I know, alcohol is metabolized differently) but the calorie count knocked my socks off!!! I guess I'm sticking with a few ounces of red wine from now on.
Oh, and sodas (sweetened naturally or artificially) are not a good replacement imo. Luckily I love water, and enjoy it with lemon or lime sometimes, or a Now Foods Vita Squencher. Of course, I drink a heck of a lot of coffee too!0 -
Yes I know what you mean, I got totally carried away on Sat night, but it was the calories more than the carbs which knocked me about.
Plus the massive hangover on Sunday! It really isnt worth it is it?!Still feeling rubbish today, I think its going to be a 3 day hangover ha!
