RNC Scandal

I feel like this isn't getting as much attention as I would imagine it should. Is it safe to say that with the actions of the GOP yesterday they have just shot their own foot and ruined any chance of electing their candidate in November? I was horrified to the point that I couldn't even watch the events on tv last night. From the new "rule" change allowing delegates to be reassigned to the censorship of delegate roll call to the fact that a bus driving Virginia delegates opposing the new rule change kept them from attending until AFTER the vote had been finalized, I have never seen a more corrupt process in my life.
Since I'm no expert on this process. How can duly voted delegate be told that they HAVE to vote for Mitt Romney? The state of Maine for example, the Ron Paul delegates were denied seats on the floor and one Maine delegate stated, "We were elected by the people of the Republican Party," he says. "You have to protest for election fraud and if you don't stand up for election fraud now, I mean, if your votes don't count, why even bother? Why even vote if your vote doesn't count?" "We would have probably stood in line and voted for Romney in November, but not if he's going to do this for us," he says. "Not if he's going to disenfranchise the voters of the state of Maine. If you're going to do that, I will not stand with this party. This is ridiculous. These people were elected by the state and they're not allowed to be on the floor."
Just for fun. A video of a Georgia delegate casting their states votes for Romney and Paul. You can hear the mic being cut when Paul's name is mention and you can hear the NC worker congratulating someone on muting the mic.

Do you think that this could cost Romney the vote in November? With such a close race, and the number of people who WOULD have voted for Romney if nominated fairly will now not be voting for him.. Is this a preview of what the election will be like come November? Corrupt and unfair?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we are going to see third parties get a record high of votes not seen since Perot. Love him or hate him, there is no denying now or for the last few months that the Republican power players and media have done everything possible to ignore or hurt the RP campaign, and his young voters are not going to forget.0

I believe a majority of delegates at the convention under the age of 40 were representing Paul. Most delegates over the age of 40 were not. As the old ones fad out at least the younger generation has a bit of hope. :laugh:0 -

I think this really will cause a huge loss of votes for people who had planned to vote for Romney, just to out Obama. As far a social media goes, there is already a huge movement of Paul supporters directing his votes to Johnson.
Ron Paul has over a million 'likes' on facebook. If even a fraction of those people decide to no longer vote for Romney because of this, I think that could be enough to break the election for him in such a close race between him and Obama. Romney needs those votes to win, so I suppose the GOp just really screwed themselves.

The democrats did nothing about the Black Panthers intimidating voters in 08. They are the last people who should say anything about disenfranchisement.0 -

I suspect that a lot of Paul voters were not going to vote for Mitt anyway. Everyone I've talked to has said that Mitt is just as bad and they are going to write Paul in.0 -

That's not necessarily an option. In Indiana, I cannot write Paul in because he appeared on the primary ballot. Sore-loser states.. Regardless, those states where Paul is written in will be votes against Romney...0 -

Well nothing except charge the TWO people, who incidentally had no affiliation with the government on any level, with federal crimes.
Justice Department Seeks Injunction Against New Black Panther Party
Lawsuit Seeks to Prohibit Voter Intimidation in Future Elections
WASHINGTON - The Justice Department today filed a lawsuit under the Voting Rights Act against the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense and three of its members alleging that the defendants intimidated voters and those aiding them during the Nov. 4, 2008, general election.
The complaint, filed in the United States District Court in Philadelphia, alleges that, during the election, Minister King Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson were deployed at the entrance to a Philadelphia polling location wearing the uniform of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, and that Samir Shabazz repeatedly brandished a police-style baton weapon.
“Intimidation outside of a polling place is contrary to the democratic process,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Grace Chung Becker. “The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed to protect the fundamental right to vote and the Department takes allegations of voter intimidation seriously.”
According to the complaint, party Chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz confirmed that the placement of Samir Shabazz and Jackson in Philadelphia was part of a nationwide effort to deploy New Black Panther Party members at polling locations on Election Day. The complaint alleges a violation of Section 11(b) of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which prohibits intimidation, coercion or threats against “any person for voting or attempting to vote.” The Department seeks an injunction preventing any future deployment of, or display of weapons by, New Black Panther Party members at the entrance to polling locations.
The New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, which claims active chapters nationwide, is distinct from the Black Panther Party founded by Bobby Seale in the 1960s.
The Civil Rights Division enforces the Voting Rights Act of 1965. To file complaints about discriminatory voting practices, including acts of harassment or intimidation, voters may call the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division at 1-800-253-3931. More information about the Voting Rights Act and other federal voting laws is available on the Department of Justice’s web site at www.usdoj.gov/crt/voting/index.htm
So while you compare the elected officials acting on behalf of their party at a national convention to two fringe characters from a fringe group that no one elected or takes seriously... you still couldn't manage to get it right.
Keep towing that party line. It seems to be working well for you.0 -

Facebook? Really? I would be curious to see how many of those million likes are registrered voters (and how many are actual people - Paul fans are notorious for spamming online polls) and how many voted in any of the last elections. The vast majority of Paultards that I know have pledged to not vote at all, have never voted and actually fit the Democrat demographic more than the GOP so I don't see a huge loss for the GOP there.
I really doubt that this election is going to be close enough for a few stoners to swing it one way or the other and I think Adrian is higher than Ron Paul himself if he thinks that any third party candidate is going to get anywhere NEAR Perot level this year. Perot might have looked a bit like a mad leprechaun, but his campaign was all business and appealed to independents across a broad spectrum. Ron Paul's an insane troll and his appeal is limited to children, hippies and anarchists.
Remember, Perot stole votes from an unpopular incumbent (looking to extend the GOP's already 12 years in the Oval Office) who'd broken his word on GOP orthodoxy and who was running against an ill-defined Southern governor. Romney may be unpopular, but the vast majority of the GOP will hold their nose and vote for him based on sheer hatred of Obama. He'll also get a decent share of the INDs who have lost faith in Obama, unless they can be scared back into the fold by Paul Ryan pushing grandma down the stairs in a wheelchair. The crazy wing of the GOP LOVES Ryan, so they're on board and the moderate wing - except me - seems content that Romney cannot do too much damage so they're on board.
I have always felt that the Paultards receive a disproportionate share of attention due to their sheer vocality and ability and willingness to abuse the internet and social media applications to presetn themselves as more prevalent than they indeed are. If Ron Paul was SO popular, why didn't he get a better share or the votes in the primaries? Because his fans don't vote. They tweet. They don't donate, they roll joints.
I'm unhappy my candidate didn't get in. Maybe I shoulda started a one-man campaign to get Huntsman a second look.0 -
ok.. im gonna blasted for this.. but i dont care.. i think its funny and i wish i had the money to coin this and start making bummer stickers...
Ive said this since 2008..
Romney- when nailing jello to the wall is just NOT frustrating enough..
I understand peoples right to feel how they want but i want to know why people only blame the president and not the congress.. (who truly have done nothing for their two year other than fight.. ) ((i mean 39 pieces of legislation people.. really?!!? The DO NOTHING congress that truman ran against did 110..))
i think overall im tired of the system.. im tired of a bunch of people who really and im not kidding about this, not representing my ideas/beliefs in congress..0 -

How many different ways can I make fun of Paul supporters.... Great way to respond and get your point across Swanny.
Let's list how many items here you cannot provide facts for:
Generalizing Paul supporters as "a few stoners". They are more than a few, obviously, or he wouldn't have had so many delegates at the RNC. Romney had 1524, Santorum 261, Paul 154 and Gingrich with 142.. Also, for all of the 'facebook' fans, there are many more who are NOT on facebook and support him.
Paul'tards' aren't voters. Every person I know that is a Paul supporter IS a registered voter, including myself and have voted prior to this year's primary. If for any reason there aren't more, it's because of the registered voter restriction in the primaries.
Paul'tards' don't donate, they roll joints. Actually Paul is pretty-well known for his individual and military member donations. Romney is know for his top 5 biggest contributors:Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse Group.
I'd rather Paul supporters "abuse the internet" if that is even possible. That's just a form of campaigning. Still better than Romney's contributors being banks and foreign donations which happen to be illegal (yet Romney gets away with it). Spreading the word about your candidate, especially when they aren't treated fairly isn't wrong. Taking away votes of elected delegates, IS.
Anyway, this isn't about Ron Paul, it's about the fraud committed at the RNC by the GOP and Romney.0 -

ha ha party line. oh no, not an injunction, which only came after there was enough complaints. The whole organization should be prosecuted for this and the bounty placed on George Zimmerman. Are you that blind to think that if this had been a conservative group behind this that the DOJ wouldn't have brought the pain to them? Then again, I'm sure you think that MSNBC's lack of coverage of black speakers at the convention last night wasn't planned either.
What have the leaders of the GOP done to prevent people from voting? You libs are so pathetic when it comes to race it's sad.
Your party is the one who fought the civil rights movement
Your the party that elected former clansman Robert Byrd into party leadership
Your party has Joe Biden running around using slavery as a scare tactic
Your party is the one who thinks minorities, poor and the elderly are too stupid to get an ID for voting
Your party seems to think everyone is racist and there is a legitimate need for affirmative action.
Your party is for a abortion. Minorities make up the largest percentage of this infanticide
Many liberals will call any republican minority a sell-out, uncle tom etc because they don't belong to the party
Don't even dare go down that race road until your party stops using it to divide the country.0 -

For someone accusing everyone of being high, you sure don't read very well. No where did I say any single third party would get nearly as many votes as Perot, I said "parties" as in the Green Party, Independents, RP supporters, ect. And Paultards? Really? At least they are voting for someone they actually believe in instead of backing someone like Mittens out of pure hatred for Obama. I have never seen more of hypocritical voter choice by the republicans than they just did with Romney.
And as far as Ron Paul not getting the votes or donations....once again, are you high. With the practical media blackout around his campaign and the fact that all of his donations are grassroots, he did amazing. I don't care if you like RP or not, and I am not sure if I would have voted for the guy, but someone would absolutely have to be stoned out of their mind or a complete liar to say that his campaign was treated fairly.0 -

which let me just show as soon as the libs took it up in the 50s as part of the party platform.. the "southern" democrats.. walked out holding their sign.. and joined.. wait for it..
the repubs!
both parties have blood on their hands.. saying one is more pathetic than the other.. is extremely childish..
both parties are terrible.. and this is what the whole thing is about.. how terrible the whole system is.. and the RNC pushing through nondemocracy is just another example..0 -

A. You went down the race road. No one else. This had nothing to do with race even a little until you brought it up as a diversion from the topic at hand. You did it by treating 2 members of a fringe organization as an equal comparison to the republican party. It would be the same as me saying that the democratic party really has their act together by comparing them to the guy who dyed his hair red and shot up a Colorado theater.
B. What has the republican party done to prevent people from voting? Pushed for new laws that would prevent people from voting.0 -
Wake me if an actual debate springs up out of this mash of paranoid hack rambling, which ironically has managed to sprinkle gasoline on the "it's not us, it's you" partisan squabbling bonfire-- instead of defusing it.

Hey, Swanny and I were happily reciting 80s rock hits.
But I do have to point out that while the Democrats did elect a former Klansman in Robert Byrd, the Republicans did elect a current Klansman in David Duke. He was even seen as a viable presidential candidate.

Actually, you were the one that insinuated the GOP is against blacks. I just pointed out a case of voter intimidation perpetrated by a black group that the DOJ did nothing about. I didn't call anyone racists in that claim. You have the audacity to talk about toeing the party line, yet you won't even acknowledge this case and the DOJ's indifference to it.
Please tell me what laws they passed to prevent people from voting. I'll brace for the talking points.0 -

This whole thing cracks me up. Without going down the road of who we nominated or elected decades ago, I can honestly say living in Indiana, racism as alive and well in every culture and every race. I know southern democrats who wouldn't vote for Obama because he was black. And the most hilarioius to me is the conservatives I know personally who are now once again playing the victim, saying that just because they don't like Obama, every one shouts they are racist. No, I thought they were racist before when I heard them use words like spick, wetback, coon, and ****** to describe a person. But I guess they left their racism out of the voting booth.0 -
ha ha party line. oh no, not an injunction, which only came after there was enough complaints.
Don't even dare go down that race road until your party stops using it to divide the country.
Pushed for new laws that would prevent people from voting.
I'll brace for the talking points.
You may want to reread the thread. You were the first to bring up race with the Black Panthers.0
