Bodyfat measurment / bone density scan

so I paid for a health assesment and recieved a near-infrared interactance bodyfat measurment and a bone density measurment done at my ankle bone.

If you are unfamiliar with Near infrared measurments, here is some info;

NIR (Near Infrared Interactance) - A fiber optic probe is connected to a digital analyzer that indirectly measures the tissue composition (fat and water) at various sites on the body. This method is based on studies that show optical densities are linearly related to subcutaneous and total body fat. The biceps is the most often used single site for estimating body fat using the NIR method. The NIR light penetrates the tissues and is reflected off the bone back to the detector. The NIR data is entered into a prediction equation with the person's height, weight, frame size, and level of activity to estimate the percent body fat.

This method has become popular outside of the laboratory because it is simple, fast, noninvasive, and the equipment is relatively inexpensive. However, the amount of pressure applied to the fiber optic probe during measurement may affect the values of optical densities, and skin color and hydration level may be potential sources of error. To date, studies conducted with this method have produced mixed results; a high degree of error has occurred with very lean and very obese people; and the validity of a single-site measurement at the biceps is questionable. Numerous sources report that more research is needed to substantiate the validity, accuracy and applicability of this method.

I had to LOL when they told me that my body fat was 11%. I discussed it with them and they insist that it was accurate to within +/-3-5% I told them I was most likely around 20 +/- 3-5%

here is a picture from about 10 days ago, I have dropped about 4 lbs since.

she said I carry most of my weight around my stomach and chest hence my misperception. ANYWAYS.

so then they do the bone scan and tell me that on a scale where 0 is normal and anything above is good and below is bad and Im at a -1.2 and a moderate risk for bone fracture.

I have to question the validity of the bone density test they gave when I feel that the results from the BF% were so out of line.

Has anybody ever had the infrared measurments? how do you feel about the accuracy? because from what I see in this picture, I am no where close to 11% bf at 171 lbs

Well, they've taken a spot point measurement of your biceps to predict whole bodyfat. Looking at your pics, you carry weight around your stomach and chest, but your collar bones poke through, your arms look relatively lean and you could have either t-rex or chicken legs down there. How much contrast was there with the Marine version?

Zero- I was about 235 at my biggest around 18 months ago.

Foxy, I have massive rock hard quads from running and squats that you can't find a thing to pinch except up on the inner thighs near the groin. And the marine version based on stomach and I neck put me at 23%

Legs carry a lot of mass, and if you used to carry weight, your legs will be more muscular for it. People always neglect that. Legs are bigger than arms, and big legs are freaking huge. My legs are 24" compared to 13" arms. You'll be lower than 20% if your legs are lean. The marine one neglects your legs, the other one measures your bicep. What was your one on Chris Daveys formula?

I've had a dexa scan down before. Sep last year. I was about 2kg heavier than what I was in my current profile pic and similar leanness. So that is pretty much me at 7%.

My accumeasure caliper results at the time were
    chest 4mm
    abs 10mm
    thigh 6mm

I also carry the majority of fat on the stomach. When I was bulking for the last few months the mm pretty much didn't change for chest and thigh just abs.

They told me I had whoop *kitten* bones and was in a low risk category for diabetes & heart disease.

BTW I plan on getting another one done at the end of this cut.
