This month I want you to try and include more whole grains in your meals!
With many whole grain options out there, it should be fairly easy to identify the whole grain option at the store!
There are many types of grains and each one can be either whole or refined. These include
wheat, rice, oats, barley, corn, wild rice, and rye, as well as pseudocereals such as quinoa and
buckwheat. True whole grains contain all three parts of the seed. Examples include rolled oats,
brown rice, whole grain wheat and some types of pasta.
The Whole Grain Benefit
• Whole grains are a source of fibre and are typically low in fat
• A diet rich in whole grains has been shown to have a number of health benefits, including
helping to reduce the risk of heart disease
• Studies show that health benefits are most pronounced for those consuming at least 3 servings
daily, however, even as little as one daily serving show some benefit
• Whole grains are a good source of nutrients, including carbohydrates, B vitamins, iron, zinc,
magnesium and fiber
For bread, I use Nature's Own Whole Grain. It's only 50 Calories per slice! Also try Uncle Ben's brown rice & quinoa....very good!
Good luck and don't forget to post feedback and motivation!
God Bless,
Coach Josh
