Steve - just curious if you've read Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle and what your thoughts were on it?

IIRC, Tom later changed his stance on that.

In reading the latest edition of BFFM, the answer is "sorta". He acknowledges that studies have refuted the efficacy of meal timing, but contends that you can't ignore the decades of success bodybuilders have had with it, even if it is anecdotal evidence. He does say that if it creates an unnecessary hardship because of scheduling, the conventional 3 meals per day method will work...he just doesn't think it's optimal.

Tom's actually a friend of mine. And I think it's one of the better main stream books out there. I think some of his strength training guidelines and definitely his meal frequency guidelines can use updating. But all in all, it's better than most of the garbage out there. Put it this way, I'd rather a beginner read that book than mostly anything they're going to find on the shelves. His other book... I believe it's called the Body Fat Solution... is also a very decent book.

I interviewed Tom a while back for the main site. It was the least favorite interview I ran of the bunch... but I was happy he gave me the time.

I agree that's he's one of the better ones out there. He always cites studies where relevant and seems to know his stuff.
