Exercising on SBD P1

So having done SBD off and on for many years, I always have the same problem...exercise. It's really, really hard to do in P1, but I know it'll just have to happen!

I'm looking forward to getting started. I thought we might want to keep a thread going for specifically exercise chatter? I just know it tends to be the hardest part of P1 once you get past the cravings :)

  • I will jump in here...not always easy to get it in, but once you do, u miss it when you don't. I started today on the TM...just 20 minutes at 3mph and 6 incline...will try and get to the gym this weekend to check out a couple of machines to help out with strengthening exercises.

I did Phase 1 in 2008 and did not exercise. This time I plan on doing to the 30 Day Shred 5 days a week for 6 weeks. It will be a challenge with little energy, but I will see how I feel. If it's too much while on Phase 1 I might change it up a bit and walk every other day instead of the shred.

I think I'd be happy with 3x a week exercise...I used to run, and loved it. I'm trying to get up the courage to get back out there.

Yeah, I am not looking forward to day 2 of the 30 day shred I remember all to well when I was hardly able to sit on the toilet b/c of my quads being so soar.
  • One thing I have learned about myself is that if I don't exercise in the morning I wont do it. My energy level in the evenings is just way to low. So my goal is to work out 3 days a week doing zumba for 45 mins. My little baby is only 2.5 months old so its just easier for me to pop her in the baby carrier and dance around my house...hehehe I have a heart rate monitor and it burns around 400 cals so that should be good enough per week.
  • Jen, I read your post this morning and it inspired me to get on the treadmill early, before I changed my mind.. Great little sweat going...and now I am done ... 30 minutes. Using Pandora...I am even paying the 4.99 a month to not get ads. That way, I just keep changing up the tunes to keep me pumped. No waiting on dopey commercials. This is just day two of getting back to exercise...and if I can just keep this great feeling in my head  , tomorrow should be a bit easier. -nanc
  • Ok, so the treadmill is something I can do for sure...and it's in my bedroom LOL...so no real excuse.

Just got back from the gym with my niece and her DH...they are helping me get acquainted with the machines there...it is a private gym to the community...clubhouse thing and no one to ask for help...so they are making sure I know what I am doing.

Today worked on quads and hamstrings and a couple of arm and chest exercise...and the recumbent bike...ten minutes...knees are a bit rusty.

We are going back tomorrow to make sure I do not forget anything. They are just here for a the remainder of the week...they go back to Spain next Saturday...but I am so happy they took the time to help me out...

I know this is going to really help me get the muscles around my knees strengthened so I can eventually go longer on the TM and bike...and not be in any pain when I walk.

What are all of you doing?

Am still cleaning my house & yard after a big family BBQ ....... does that count

Usually I hit the gym on Sundays, but didn't make it today ....... then I planned to go for a walk this afternoon, but a series of bad T-storms hit ...... finally I dusted off the old treadmill, and walked 20 minutes at 3.5 mph ......

    I did good !

You absolutely did do good! I am going to sing your praises a bit, if u don't mind. Mary Ann began exercising just over a year ago this past June. She was NOT a gym rat to start...and pretty much fought it for the longest time.

NOW...now, she is the queen of the gym...they all know her and she knows everyone. She is dedicated...really dedicated...hits the gym AFTER working all day at the Vet...she hits the gym after work IF she does not make it there before.

You are a total inspiration MA! :flowerforyou: I am going to start out slow and make it there six days a week...maybe one year from now, you will be singing my praises. :blushing:
  • Four days in a row on the treadmill...this is a first and I owe it to this group and all of you. Please join in on the fun and gear yourself up for the start date (if u have not started already, of course) Monday, September 17. :drinker:

Less than 6 days to go!!! I am putting the final touches on my grocery list, after all preparing for this is the key. If you don't have meals planned for the first day you might get frustrated and eat something you shouldn't have.

I say we make a goal to at least have the first 3 days planned, even if you are a grab and go person, have the foods ready for the first 3 days and know what you are going to eat, it really will be easier on you. We are all going to learn as we go, that's the fun part!!

I am getting all the fruit in the house eaten this week and my frozen meals cooked up. Have a party to go to Saturday so I will get THAT out of my system. Come Monday it's all "BUSINESS" :)
  • Ditto regarding food ... getting ready for P1, come Monday. Exercise for me is a bit limited...recumbent bike, treadmill, pool and a few weight machines. I am going to commit to five days a week.

Big shopping day on Sunday with prepping chicken (poaching) and .making a batch of veggie quiche.
