Avoiding your roommates food!

Hey guys :)

So I am definitely a comfort eater, but I try to control my urges by only buying good, healthy foods when I go shopping. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies and no snack stuff (granola bars, crackers, etc.). I don't even bother buying typical snack food because it never fills me up and I can never stop eating it once I start! So I was actually looking forward to getting an apartment vs. being on campus with a meal plan so I could keep bad food out of sight, but I didn't think about what my roommates would be bringing into the house! They buy all the delicious snack foods I love including poptarts and oreos and pretzels. We are all close so we don't care about sharing food so I can't even use guilt as a way to deter myself from eating it , ha.

Does anyone have any suggestions on avoiding other peoples food? I know I would be loosing at a faster rate if I didn't go on random snack attacks after a clean day of eating!

  • Maybe... any time you are thinking about having food, go ahead and put the food into MFP. Like if they are eating Oreos, put 3 Oreos into your diary. Just make that a general rule. Then you can see the harm they do before you actually do it. And if you realize the x amount of calories/fat isn't worth it, you can just delete it!

Or you can put a picture or inspirational quote on your fridge or something?

    Good luck!

I had that problem last year, one of my roomates used to bring lots of unhealthy food to the apartment and leave it on the kitchen table. Often my other roomate and I put her pastries in the freezer or in the cupboard so that it's not in front of our faces all the time... Sometimes it worked, sometimes I still had a bite of her things.

Don't hide the fact that you're dieting from them, perhaps they can put it in their own drawer / cupboard and not leaving them lying around...

Anyhow I also agree with SoonerVet, seeing how many calories it contains might make you change your mind about eating them...

Your roomies might be up for sharing, but they WILL care if you binge on their food. Think of it like that.
