Weight Gain

Hi ladies,
I know this topic comes up a great deal, but I am particularly frustrated. I have over 100 pounds to lose and I had plateued for about 6 weeks. I worked so hard to lose 5 pounds but finally after a month and a half of fighting I broke it and started losing. Then my period came...I gained 7 pounds. Yesterday was the last day of my period and I'm only down 2 of the seven, basically putting me back where I was 7 or 8 weeks ago. I am doing everything right, even took up drinking green tea. I don't want to give up and I want to believe the weight will drop. Can anyone share if they've had similar experiences. I need to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks.

  • Ive only been on MFP for 25 days and this is my first TOM that im recording and dealing with during my weight loss tracking. I lost 14lbs and then gained back 5 due to water weight. Im hoping that I will shed that and plus some but time will tell.

Sorry to hear you are frustrated. Its totally not fair. Losing weight can be tough enough without having to add back in these roller coaster pounds in the mix.

Hope you start to see better results on the scale. :flowerforyou:

Hi, I am only losing on average less than 1 lb per week, so when at TOTM I gain 2-3 lbs it often seems as though I am going no where. I have upped my exercise, upped my calories, lowered my calories and even tried low carb. They never seemed to make much difference until the last time I moaned I realised that I was actually a half stone lighter than when I first started on here so even with my weight gain / water retention I was actually still lighter. After this last one where I hadnt lost anything, I suddenly got on the scale and was 3lb lighter.

We can just try our hardest, our body will do as it pleases and hopefully it will eventually be kind. As long as we knw the gain isnt through over indulging it has to be better. Have you tried taking your measurements, waist, hips etc, you may be losing inches.

    Keep up the good work.

Hi Raquel, thanks for starting up this discussion.

Weight gain/fluctuation is normal when you're trying to lose weight, especially when it's TOTM. I've had experiences dieting before, also, where I lost weight very consistently for a few weeks or even a few months then just kind of stopped losing. When I was using a personal trainer for guidance and encouragement a few years back, he told me that when you have a plateau like that, wait to see how long it lasts. If it's just a week or two, your body may just be adjusting to the weight loss you previously had. If it continues, it may mean that your body has adjusted to your diet and exercise and it is time to step it up a notch. Of course, I am not a professional and cannot speak for any individual circumstances except for my own. Just wanted to share that tidbit of information if it helps.

Don't get discouraged, dieting and nutrition is like learning anything else - it takes time and practice. The more you do it the more success you will see from it. And always remember you're not alone! :)

I was pretty happy this morning when I noticed in the mirror that despite my normal TOM bloating I was actually still pretty slim and ripped :) usually I feel like a massive beast. Hopefully this month is better than usual

That is what we have to remember as time goes on that we are still weighing that much less than say a month ago.
