When I do insanity, I only burn about 200-300 calories per workout. Is that accurate? I have a hear rate monitor, but I am not sure if perhaps I am not using it correctly. I ama female, 5'3 and 127 lbs. I know gender and weight has to do with it. I push my self to the max doing the work out, but I see other people reporting that they burn 1,000 calories per workout... help

I burn around 400 according to my heart rate monitor.

I'm the same. Most of the workouts are around 300 - 400 cals. Much lower on the cardio recovery day and I only get into the 400's on the days that we add the cardio abs workout. I really thought I would be burning much more after everyone commented, but it would seem that it's not the case. I think it depends on your weight and fitness level (I'm 5.4" and 120 pounds). The last week or so I've been burning around 30 - 50 cals less than when I started as well.

It has been discussed previously on here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/409746-heart-rate-monitor-watch-vs-chest-strap I'm certain multiple times. There are articles all over the web comparing the difference and relative accuracy.

I'll reiterate what I commented on your thread from my phone, but didn't show up here.

You would need to compare with someone that has similar characteristics to you. I burn between 800 to 1100 calories depending on the day, but I likely weigh considerably more than you at 230 pounds. Your finess level, current weight, muscle/fat distribution and exercise effort all affect your calorie usage. Look for people closer to those characteristics to get a better comparison. Each individual will be different, but those with a similar height/weight ratio as well as a similar muscle/fat ratio to you should be reasonably similar if the same effort is put forth.

I have an older Polar F6 that still works great. I recently replaced it with a Bluetooth model that interacts with my Android phone and the iCardio app. That not only calculates the calories and heart rate, but records the zones I was in through the entire workout. It has additional features for running, walking, and cycling for tracking distance and location using the phone's GPS. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Bluetooth-Smart-Heart-Sensor/dp/B007S088F4/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1347889475&sr=1-1&keywords=polar+wearlink+bluetooth

Find what works for you. You don't have to get expensive, just look for accurate and reliable.

I burn between 300 (cardio recovery) to 600 (all others) for month 1. Between 8-900 for month 2 workouts, but I am around 185-190 lbs.

    A few items to consider:
    1. I apologize if this is a dumb question, have you changed the factory settings to your specific settings? I have a polar FT-6 and this was one of the first things I had to do and continue to change as I loose weight. 2. When you are working out, what zone are you in...fitness, weight loss, etc. I remember I was huffing and puffing when my HR went above 160 when i started, now I am able to maintain > 160, thus burning more calories. 3. Have you considered measuring yourself to keep track of body changes?

Good Luck and stick with it. The results for me have been excellent.

I'm 5'10" 228lbs. On the 50-60 minute insanity workouts I'm in the 900 cal range according to my "Sportline" heart monitor, purchased at Best Buy for 60 bucks.

I have similar results with Momar74. I'm 5'11'' and 201lbs. Report back on calorie changes if you've adjusted the settings of your heart rate monitor to your weight, age, gender and VO 2 max.

Yes. I adjusted my weight on my heart rate monitor. And the watch that I bought was very expensive. It says it is just as accurate as a chest strap because it keeps up with your heart rate with out having to consistently stop to check heart rate or something like that. it's a pretty much new kind. Idk. But that's how it was advertised and my doctor suggested that watch because if it's easy use and accuracy.
I guess I burn less because I am in relitavely good shape (I suppose)... And I don't really have too much weight to loose. I'm not sure. But that's what It is seeming like. I'm 127 but I'm a solid 127, if that makes since.

My zone is from 60% - 90% when I push my hardest on the videos

Thank you everyone for the help
