I'm sure we've done this before, but in light of the conversation going on in the 'How long is too long' thread...
What does your mental shopping-list consist of? Further, which are absolutes, which highly desirable, but could be negotiated, and which are just 'it would be nice if...' ?
To start things off, my 'absolutes' are:
Integrity
Intelligence
Kindness/Courtesy/Respect for others
Humour
Generosity of spirit
Highly-desirable, but negotiable/varying degrees entirely acceptable:
Non-smoker - I could handle an ex-smoker, but not a current one as I'm highly allergic to cigarette smoke.
Taller than me, when I'm wearing heels, even if only fractionally
Intellectually-curious
Motivated/High-achiever
Likes to travel
Would like to have children
Similar cultural & educational background and range of interests
An engaging personality
Enjoys/appreciates/is interested in and willing to learn about Opera/Classical Music/Theatre (it's my job, so...at the very least has to not loathe it!)
It would be nice... but absolutely non-essential:
A good dancer
Multi-lingual
Enjoys cooking (and eating!) good food, good wine, proper whiskey
Broad shoulders
Nice hands
Green or blue eyes, dark hair - this last is totally irrelevant, really, but it is under the 'would be nice' section, and it would be!

"Crank on his own vehicle [required]," and "Crank on your vehicle [preferable]." Is this some sort of euphemism I'm not are of?? And it seems you should be more interested in his ability to crank your vehicle, no?

I thought my list was short, but I didn't even consider follow through. Super important.
My non-negotiables seem to be intelligence, subversive humor, kindness, and overall progressive attitude (although progressive attitude is a vague term).
I'd prefer someone who's compassionate/empathetic, but I've been accused of having this kind of quality enough for two people, so maybe I could use some balance on this.
When I was younger I might have had some physical preferences that were more important as filters, but within a relative range I've dated/crushed on men of most sizes and races. But- short fingers gross me out, and apparently it's something that I can't get over. Barf. I guess disproportionally short arms are in this category, too. This makes me hate myself a little bit.0 -
