FIRST half marathon training - anyone tried it?

Hi all,
I just ran my second HM last weekend and clocked a disappointing 2:28, which was virtually no improvement from my 2010 time.
My problem is speed as i know am confident knowing I can run the distance, and this is what I would like to work on before my next HM (which will be May next year)
I can only manage three runs a week and I came across this training plan called FIRST which advocates running faster, but shorter distance and only three times a week. has anybody tried this and what are your experiences with it?
Thanks in advance

get the runners world smart coach app, it's free.
I only have 3 running days available.
Monday - I do a long run
Thursday - Tempo
Saturday - Speedwork
are you incorporating any hill work?0 -
thanks very much for that!
May I know what pace you're doing your tempo and speedwork at?
No, no real hill work unless it's incidental to the run (if I do my long run there are normally two steep sections, although not very long)... do you mean running up and down the hills as a training session?0 -
tempo runs at 5.15 / 5.20 min per km
Speedwork 4-4.15min per km and it's hard.0 -
Wow, I'm like totally speechless. My fastest at a 10km distance is 6.5 min/km and I wasn't functioning too well after.
Lots of work for me to do then!
Many thanks again for your advise mmk137!0
